What to Do if a Man Whom You Were About to Marry Just Lost His Job?

user

Here is today's typical situation: A young woman and her boyfriend have been together for nearly three years. Lately they moved into a house of their own (renting) and even got a kitten. A victim of the latest wave of lay-offs, her boyfriend lost a job and has been unemployed for around four months. He got depressed. She has also been diagnosed with depression due to their financial difficulties coupled with the stress of moving and what not.

Given everything that has been going on, she have lost her feelings for him and now she is thinking that maybe it would be easier to leave him and start afresh. They have had a very loving relationship in the past but it annoys her that although she's depressed has to work full time to pay the bills, he does nothing but bums off her money. Just a half a year ago she thought this guy was the one, but now it's getting to the point where he is driving her broke and bringing her suffering. What should she do?

Some may argue (me among them) that this is exactly the time when their relationship is being tested. A woman should stand by her man, and help him go through a difficult phase, because that's what love is all about. Others may disagree, saying that she should dump him (or at least stay apart for some time), let him sort things out, and talk to her when he gets back on his feet - for she needs a partner, and not another kitten to take care of.
