I confessed to my friend that I have a crush on Dr. Jack Shepherd (Matthew Fox). Sure he can screw up from time to time, but he’s a good doctor, a moral character and looks equally hot in a suit (did anyone else notice he looked particularly handsome last week?) or sweaty and dirty on the island. Swoon!
Then I got to thinking, why are TV crushes so next level? Well, for starters, you have a guaranteed viewing date with your crush once a week, and unlike a movie actor or character, you get to understand the nuances of their personality. It sounds slightly psycho, but you find yourself smiling, saying “That was so Jack,” or whatever. Because you think you know them!
Thankfully, I’m not the only staffer at Shine with a TV crush.
Maggie Nemser says, "I am oddly, oddly attracted to House. He’s incredibly witty, you’re always safe when he’s around, and with the right woman (i.e. me), his roughed edges would be softened, and his angry layers would peel away."
Jennifer Romolini couldn’t choose just one:
- Bradley Whitford from “The West Wing” (we’re watching reruns)--I stalked him at Fashion Week.
- Jemaine from “Flight of the Conchords” (saw him on the street last year, nearly jumped him)
- Jon Stewart
- Ted from “How I Met Your Mother”
Jessica Ashley might have to share her crush with Jenn. "I am a little in love with Jon Stewart."
Dory Devlin confirmed the trend: "Same here. There is nothing better than a smart guy who makes you laugh, a lot. Love him."
Annette Cardwell has two major crushes:
- Alexander Skarsgard from "True Blood" - This guy is the son of amazing actor Stellan Skarsgard and has apparently been voted Sexiest Man in Sweden 5 times. I first started crushing on him when I saw him in HBO's "Generation Kill," where he was fantastic as a crew-cut Marine lieutenant. In "True Blood," he's just stunning -- even with long hair (not my normal thing) -- as blonde-beauty vampire Eric. Puts Robert Pattinson's Edward Cullen to shame.
- Ed Westwick from "Gossip Girl" - OK, I know I'm robbing the cradle on this one. I mean, this guy is 21, but man, he's got the whole sexy cad thing down. I don't know if I'm more in love with Ed Westwick or his "GG" character Chuck Bass. Probably the latter, because of his super insane style and that whole "lovable rogue" swagger he's got going. But I do love Ed Westwick's lovely British accent. Just makes me want to go all Mrs. Robinson.
Charlene Prince Birkeland reminds us of an oldie but goodie: "So we just re-watched the miniseries, “Lonesome Dove” and I’m back to crushing on Rick Schroeder, mostly because I remember how cute he was on "NYPD Blue." This is what happens when you don’t own a television."
Now, Shine readers, I ask you: confess your TV crush! It's clearly safe to gush around here.
