Report AbuseI agree with AJ. So many posts are "Always, Never, Should, Shouldn't" absolutes, like we must create strict rules and small boxes of appropriate and inappropriate behavior in order to succcessfully interact with anyone.
Maybe if we lived lives that were more accommodating to needs and wants, included flexibility and acceptance of differences, and supported people to act in a way that is both true to themselves and respectful of other people, we wouldn't have to define behavior in such globally rigid ways.
Figure out what is negotiable in your own life, communicate your expectations to others and then determine if you can be with a guy who will or won't carry your purse...or with a woman who will or won't carry your gym bag/man purse/briefcase...as if carrying it or not carrying it is a deal breaker for a relationship! :)

Report AbuseI carry my wife's purse from time to time and I don't mind helping in that respect. She had cancer in her arm and has trouble with her shoulders. Been married for twenty-five years and don't feel effeminated at all. You would be suprised at the affirmitave comments I get from other ladies when they see I am trying to be helpful.

Report AbuseGod... it's just a purse. Unless a guy is flaming in drag it's obvious that the purse belongs to his wife/girlfriend. Duh!
It's interesting how YourTango blog posts lecture women on being mature, tolerant, and open minded about male habits, but treat something as stupid as a woman's accessory as an intolerable burden for men. Please.

Report AbusePurses...hmmm. What amazes me most about women and their purses is the woman's seemingly superhuman strength. I swear all women are brick salespersons, and carry samples in their purses. I've packed suitcases that weighed less! What the heck is IN THERE, anyway?!

Report Abuse*rolls eyes* Here we go with the asinine generalizing again.
Not all women carry huge, laden purses. Obviously *some people* never been to the accessories department of any clothing store, because there's purses that range from itty bitty coin pouches with a shoulder strap to OMG a nuclear warhead lives here.
I should probably buy the latter, and put a brick in it, in case I my car breaks down in a dark alley somewhere so I can use it as a modified morning star.
I have a very small purse. It holds my wallet, my cell phone, my various shopping cards, and a few folded up pieces of paper. Oh, how horrible of me to ask my man to hold it for two seconds while I check something out at the store! His arm might fall off! *sniff*
And how about those man purses... erm I mean man "bags"? They look like they could hold a collapsible filing cabinet.
