Would You Date a Coworker?

Office crushes. They happen. Maybe not everyone can say that they fell in like with someone in the cubicle next to them, but it makes sense. Your job is the place you spend most of your waking hours at or involved with. To be near someone all day every day can fuel an attraction for sure, and meeting someone at work seems more ideal than braving singles night. Think about it: You already know each others' names, have probably made chitchat at the water cooler, plus you know that they've got an income. (Trust us, this is something you want to know. Even though it's the 21st century and the dating rules have changed, there's nothing worse than having to shell out for both of you on the first date because the guy can't afford to cover even his share of the bill.)

Yes, these flirtations can take off—but they can burn out, as well. And there's nothing worse than having to deal with the repercussions of a breakup in the workplace: You're already depressed, but having to interact with the person you most want to avoid is just plain torture.

Work has been known to be the catalyst for relationships on more than one occasion. Countless celebrities bring their onscreen hookups to reality. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are perhaps the most famous example, but it happens all the time. The world of fashion is no different. Lisa Fonssagrives met photographer Irving Penn on a photo shoot; not only did Lisa become his muse, but the two fell in love and married. Vogue favorite Caroline Trentini met her current boyfriend Victor Demarchelier on a shoot as well.

Still, knowing when to draw the line is important in maintaining and furthering one's career. Just ask Inès de la Fressange and Gilles Bensimon. While Gilles has been known to have dated many of his photo subjects, Inès and Gilles have always been just friends. See what Inès and Gilles have to say about keeping things professional.

What do you think about dating someone you work with?
