Would you date your hired help?

Back in March there was speculation that Britney Spears was dating her longtime talent agent, Jason Trawick. The 37-year-old is a rep for the William Morris Agency, and has been spotted on Britney's tour and vacationing with the star and her two sons in the Bahamas.

"They are totally and definitely dating," says an insider. "Her dad loves him. He's the best thing that happened to her."  Though Britney's rep has made no comment, this source close to the couple confirms they are a couple. "They're very sweet together," they say, adding that Spears "always had a crush" on Trawick. "He makes Britney really happy, and he's great with the boys."

Another plus? He's one of her brother Bryan's best friends and gets along great with Brit's dad/money manager. Everyone disliked her ex-husband, backup dancer Kevin Federline, from the start. Her last boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib, was a celeb photographer that those close to the singer swore was just cashing in on her fame. The fact that Trawick has won over those closest to Britney speaks wonders for their relationship.

As her agent and boyfriend, Jason should only have Brit's best interests at heart. The only real downside we see to this new pairing: what if the couple splits? They her wonderful agent of five years will have to be replaced. Yikes, we have our fingers crossed for these two.

I see about half of the comments on this were of a very "mature" nature...

    NOT!

Well, as a former HR professional, let's take the legal approach to this.

There's this pesky little concept called "sexual harassment." It can manifest itself in two forms, "quid pro quo" and "hostile environment."

There is nothing illegal about co-workers dating, but if one or the other can't take "no" for an answer and continues to pursue the dead relationship, it can lead to the "hostile environment" definition. This has also led to many of the workplace violence incidents in the news over the years. Bad news for the employer if it/he/she fails to take action, using the normal disciplinary process or the "negligent retention" precedents.

The absolute worst scenario, though, is the quid pro quo. It basically means that a certain reward is promised or implied in return for certain "favors." It's also the one in which juries award the largest settlements, if the plaintiff chooses to go that route. There's always the chance a spurned lover may choose this route just out of spite and make accusations, true or not. Whether you are found innocent of the charges or not, it will put a silver bullet in your career with your current emplyer.

My advice to any boss, manager, or supervisor before dating a subordinate: use your network to get him/her a better job elsewhere, and THEN begin dating.
