Today John and Ali talk about a recent NY Times article on the latest school lunch controversy: In NYC a push for healthier meals has gone overboard, say some critics, resulting in calorie counts lower than the recommended daily allowance. In recent years, New York City government has taken numerous steps to make public school lunches healthier, including replacing fries with baked potato strips and introducing nonfat chocolate milk, whole grain pasta, and salad bars. The Bloomberg administration acknowledges they served children fewer calories than the number recommended by the United States Department of Agriculture. Ali and John weigh in what kids really need.
