The guy you're dating has all the qualities you're looking for in a significant other. He's sweet, cute, funny and very witty. There's just one problem…he's completely broke. You have to pay for him on dates and even buy him clothes on occasion. It can be very frustrating dating a guy who is broke and can definitely put a strain on your relationship with him. If you are trying to decide on whether you should continue dating a guy who's broke, here are some questions you should ask yourself.
Is he trying to change his situation?
It's one thing when a guy is broke but trying to do something to better his situation. It's something completely different when he just sits on his couch all day playing video games instead of trying to look for a job. If he isn't even motivated enough to look for a job, he lacks ambition and expects someone else to take care of him. If your guy doesn't seem to want to change his situation, you have to wonder if he's looking for you to take care of him.
Does he mooch off you?
If your guy asks you for money all the time or expects you to pay for his dinner every night, he is a mooch and trying to take advantage of you. It's okay to occasionally pay for your guy, but doing it all the time can send you to the poor house soon. If your guy constantly mooches off you, definitely think about dropping him.
How broke is he?
If he can pay his bills and only has $20 extra a week to pay for gas, you can work with that. However, if he is short on rent every month and barely has enough money to eat, you might have some problems. Someone who is that broke needs to work on himself before he has a relationship with someone else. He needs to take care of his financial situation so that he doesn't bring someone else down with him.
Deciding whether or not to date a broke guy is completely up to you. Just make sure to consider both the pros and cons so that you make the right choice.
