Boy Grew His Hair for 5 Years, Cut it for Charity

Colin Southwood isn't your average little boy. Not only did he sport long, flowing locks down his back for the past five years, he's got a sense of decency and maturity not found in many adults.

Colin was just four years old when he decided he wanted to grow his hair out so he could donate it to make wigs for people with cancer. The cause hit close to home with him and his family, as several people they're close to - a grandmother, two great-grandparents and one of the teachers at school - suffered from cancer.

Colin, who is now 10, grew his hair down to his waist. In May, he visited a salon and had 13 inches chopped off so he could donate it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.

"I'm proud that he came to this decision by himself. I get choked up really thinking about it," said the boy's mother, Denise Southwood, to Huffington Post.

"[I] thought it would be a great idea to donate my hair to people and kids who lost their hair to cancer," wrote Colin in a note the day he cut his hair. "I just can't imagine how it feels like to lose your hair and have cancer. So I just cut 13 inches of my hair so you can make beautiful wigs for those that need it. I hope they feel better and happier and don't have to suffer the pains of cancer."

Colin's new look won't last very long - he's already started growing his hair so he can eventually donate again.
