Ellen Helps Out an Enthusiastic Librarian and Her Students
If anyone could get a child excited about reading, it's Kirby Thomas, the beloved librarian at McAuliffe Elementary in Broken Arrow, OK.
This energetic educator is extremely passionate about inspiring kids to read. She started Mobile Media, a summer reading initiative for which she loads a van full of books and distributes them throughout her school district's low-income neighborhoods.
Kirby's biggest wish was to have a large truck to function as a traveling library -- and to meet Ellen! Both her dreams came true when the show made a personal visit to Kirby's school to present her with a $25,000 check and a brand new truck for her book program… and she'll be visiting Ellen soon.
