The man from Annapolis, MD has spent his life in a wheelchair ever since an accident at the beach left him a paraplegic. In 2004, a wave picked him up and dropped him on his head, shattering his neck. He was just 18 years old at the time of his injury.
Despite his disabilities, Basile refuses to slow down. He is a strong advocate for the disabled, giving motivational speeches about overcoming any type of obstacle, and he would know - not only does he still paint and play sports, he was able to realize his dream of becoming an attorney.
"I put so many long hours and hard work into getting to this point in my life, and this morning I was there and I just really don't want this feeling to go away," he told MyFoxDC the day was was sworn into the bar.
Basile plans to specialize in malpractice law and already has a job at a law firm. "He has the empathy and he understands what it is to be injured," his new boss Jack Olender said.
"People have never told me what I can and cannot do - to my face at least," said Basile.
