In 1993, legendary basketball coach Jim Valvano made a speech at the ESPY Awards that became permanently etched in American ethos. This year, patients at Duke Children's Hospital recited his motivational words, offering their own inspiration for the next generation.
The montage of poignant thoughts and examples of human spirit was filmed at the Jim Valvano Day Hospital, and posted to YouTube December 6. The goal of the piece is to raise money for Valvano's The V Foundation.
In the video, the kids let Valvano begin. "Time is very precious to me," he says. "I don't know how much time I have left and I have some things that I would like to say. There are three things we all should do every day."
The children took it from there…
In true Jimmy V Fashion, the emotion will move you to tears.
