On a crusade to end world hunting, one beaver has decided to single-handedly snatch rifles from anyone who dares bring them into the forest. At least, that's what a hunter named Nathan Baron discovered when one clever rodent stole his gun before his very eyes.
Judging by the animal's tactics, we're certain this can't be his first escapade.
The beaver, who reportedly goes by Beav, was not available for interviews, but Baron provided an eyewitness account of his own robbing to the Bangor Daily News.
It happened last weekend in Maine while Baron was out hunting near his home. He spotted a deer as he was sitting in the woods, but waited to act because he was eating lunch.
Watching Baron closely from behind a stump, Beav plotted his ruse. He observed Baron chugging a Diet Coke and water bottle, and knew he'd soon have a window of opportunity.
Sure enough, Baron took a bathroom break after his meal, and walked to his nearby house.
As soon as he left, Beav made his move.
Baron returned to find his large rifle not placed against the tree where he left it, but in Beav's tight grip.
"There was a stream that was running about 100 feet away from me. I look, and there's a beaver hauling that gun into the water," Baron explained. "I was mad, but I started laughing because it was funny. I couldn't believe it was happening, that I was seeing him take my gun into the water."
Sticking to his guns (pun obviously intended), Beav moved swiftly through the water. So swiftly in fact, Baron had no choice but to forfeit his weapon.
"There was nothing I could do," Baron said, surmising that the animal thought it was a piece of wood to use for his home. "The gun was in the water and the beaver went under. That was it."
Fortunately, the deer's life was spared.
Thus, all went according to Beav's plan.
The deer released the following statement on the matter: "I am grateful to Beav for his heroic act. Had he not been in the woods that day, I might not be grazing berries right now."
