Nick, 28, and Amy, 26, have had a long-distance relationship for almost their entire six years together. Amy is a Labor and Delivery nurse working in Bakersfield, CA, and Nick is a med student whose university has required him to study overseas. The distance has been rough, but their love for one another has made it work.
The couple expected Nick to be placed in New York for two years for clinical rotations. One morning, while making a rare trip to visit his girlfriend, he woke up to find an email saying he'd be placed in Redlands, CA - just three hours from Amy! He decided to surprise her with this good news and film her reaction. Try not to cry after seeing how happy these two are to know they'll be able to see each other more often!
"I would say it is the most surprised I have ever been in my entire life," Amy tells the Good News. "I don't think I could ever feel that surprised again. The feeling was unexplainable. I didn't believe it, it was so surreal that after two years of barely seeing my best friend and expecting yet another two years of the same, that out of what seemed to be nowhere, all of that changed."
"He has been here now for a little over a year and it has been nothing short of amazing," she continues. "Being away from someone for so long truly makes you appreciate every moment you have. I get to see him about once a month -- but that is so much better than nothing."
Amy's job contract lasts until 2015, so it may be a few more years until they can live in the same city, but after years of living in different countries, a three-hour drive is nothing for a couple this in love.
