I don't get the pickle ornament and it's relation to the holidays. Is there some Christmas thing about pickles that I don't know about, or is it just a random/goofy ornament to be different?

That is too funny. My best friend and I have a big pickle joke. So one year (not planned) we both bought each other this ornament!

I gave that pickle ornament to my a family member one year. There is an old tradition where a pickle was hidden in the tree, and the first person to find it received a special gift. It was more of a gag gift in my situation.

I didn't see any spider web ornaments...and that is one of my favorite lesser known legends!

This site tells the most commom version of the story. It reminds me of one of my most favorite children's book, "Sophie's Masterpiece".

The greatest gift exchanges require thoughtfulness, listening, and really understanding who another person is and what they like and need—that's what I always strive for in giving and it's the only thing I hope for in receiving.
