Babies/Toddlers: Good Night, Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann
Good Night, Gorilla is a children's classic board book. Even if you introduce your babies and toddlers to it, they'll continue reading it through preschool because they can't resist the sneaky shenanigans of the gorilla and his zoo posse. Don't forget to ask your little ones to spot the red balloon on every page. ($10, amazon.com)
Check out the slide show of children's books -- from babies up to teenagers -- that your kids would devour over the holidays.
What kid's books would you add to the list?

Report AbuseFor preschoolers (whose parents can read the book to them) through about third or fourth grade, I would recommend the new picture book A Pirate's Night Before Christmas by Philip Yates. It is a fun pirate take on a familiar classic, with good kid-friendly illustrations. I saw the author read the book to kids at the Texas Book Festival in early November, and it was a hit.

Report AbuseMy friend, James Lee White, just wrote a good one called "It's Christmas and It Don't Stop". It's all about giving after the season.

Report AbuseMy son's favorite is "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle (boardbook). I heard on the radio that is was the best selling fictional book of all time (adult novels inclueded)! We have it memorized! It includes counting, days of the week, food items, and the life cycle of caterpillars.
