Celebrity Sunglasses

You just discovered The Thread! This is the fifth episode of our brand-new show here on Shine, where we show you “what the stars are wearing and how to get it. We’ve got style tips, expensive trends for less, and advice on what colors and cuts are in fashion and how to dress a look up or down for the right occasion. Come on, take a look…

Sunglasses are a powerful accessory. The shades on the end of your nose convey attitude, style, and mood in a single glance. That’s why my favorites are those with timeless style, great UV protection, and a fit that flatters my face. I never skimp on sunglasses. I love a bargain as much as the next girl, but I prefer to invest in one great pair than have five or six cheap ones. I think you’ll agree the sunglasses we feature in today’s segment reflect that standard.

In this episode, you saw me wear the Oliver Peoples sunglasses like Gabrielle Anwar's on “Burn Notice” for $375. I also donned the Ford by Tom Ford sunglasses worn by Mary-Louise Parker of “Weeds,” which sell for $390. I also checked out the Kate Spade sunglasses worn by Mary McCormack of “In Plain Sight" that sell for $168. I also had on some $189 Ray-Ban Wayfarers in purple/pink which are the ones worn in this photo featuring Elle MacPherson, and the Ray-Ban aviators seen on Kate Hudson for $129.

A quick thank you to the Shine users who have inquired about some of the dresses I’ve worn during the opening segments of "The Thread." Today’s dress was by Karen Kane and it sells for $118 at Macy's, and those cute shoes I wore are by Aldo.

Thanks for checking out "The Thread." We'll be back again next week from our Planet Hollywood studio in Times Square with a new episode exploring the latest looks inspired by the Emmy-nominated “Mad Men”.
In the meantime, if there's anything you see that you'd like us to help you find, post some comments below or send me an email to sar_bernard@yahoo.com

The governemnt does not mandate UV protection past 100... which is minimal. So, all of these multi hundred dollar designer glasses are nothing more than vanity glasses because they invest in only the minimum protection. You may as well make a pair from a Coco Cola bottle. You can go to Chico's and get smart 400 UV protection for $40. Same deal at Walgreens.

Sorry, but I will not shell out money for sunglasses just to look like a celebrity. They need to have some health benefits as well.

My favorites this summer are made by Yves St. Laurent and Coach. I just buy what I like.

personally I'd never INVEST in sunglasses! Like you state in your article, the sunglasses can change your whole persona. So I usually buy ones that look good on my face, or fit my mood of the season, as long as the UV protection is 100%. I like to buy bargain ones like from Ross or Marshalls. I lose/scratch/break them often, so i don't want to shell out big $$$ for them. Some of these high fashion *expensive* ones don't even have UV, make sure you look for them.

I like the fly look on the Harlot's by Oliver Peoples. If I bought them it wouldn't be because a celebrity wore them though.. it would be because I liked them! :-)

I love these sunglasses! And, I think that a pair of cool glasses can totally change your appearance in the summer. Jeans and a shirt look immediately suave with the right pair of shades (not to mention the fact that I can not wear eyemakeup with them on :)
