Picture a head of low-key, artfully messy soft waves. That’s tousled hair. Charles has given this sexy, “perfectly imperfect” look to all his girls, including Becki Newton and Leighton Meester, and he insists that we can do it ourselves at home using products from Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly collection.
Our model Jenny, 27, who works in skincare, has fantastic long, medium textured hair, which she wears up in a ponytail most of the time. Charles broke down the steps for us as he gave Jenny a tousled makeover.
Step 1. Wash with Tousle Me Softly shampoo and conditioner.
Step 2. Prep hair with styling cream and/or mousse. In Jenny’s case he used a golf ball size handful of mousse.
Step 3. Dry hair. Use a round brush under heat to set it.
Step 4. Add tousels and volume. With a curling iron— or multiple irons of varying widths— add curls in different directions. Smooth out flyaways near the roots with a flat iron.
Step 5. Finishing cream and flexible hold hair spray will keep the tousles in place and leave hair soft—not crunchy!
Of course, Jenny looked great—she loved the volume and the bouncy tousles— and she’s going to try it again at home and let us know how it goes.
