Swimsuits That Flatter Every Body Type

Shopping for a bathing suit is not everyone's idea of a good time. But we've got a solution for you: Before you drag every option into the dressing room, learn which cuts flatter your specific shape. With the help of Shape Magazine's Jacqui Stafford, we matched four real women with the suits that compliment their very different body types.

I have a confession to make: I haven't bought a new bathing suit in five years. I actually find the whole experience anxiety-making. But Jacqui's advice has made me see it a little differently. Once you know which cut flatters your specific body shape, finding a suit that you feel comfortable in is (nearly) painless.
The first step is identifying which shape you are: Are you an apple (thicker waist), a pear (wider hips), full-figured, or small on top?

In this episode, our real women models each try on two options — a splurge and a steal— which highlights the positive aspects of their figures and downplays the parts they're not as crazy about. Remember, the goal is to avoid shopping anxiety, because when you find the right fit, anyone can feel confident and sexy in a bathing suit!

Bonus: All of the suits we selected are click to buy below so you can start shopping for your body type, too.

What about the girls who HAVE big busts and want them to appear smaller? There never seems to be swimwear for larger breasted women or anyone ever talking about it on these episodes or any TV shows....?

Why would you want your bust to look smaller? Women are totally nuts.

I saw the 2 posts from women who said they needed more support because of having more assets up top. i just bought a new swimsuit after looking around a lot, as i have the same problem of needed more support and coverage on top. its the jantzen vamp. it is a one piece that has rouching all over the body, ties in the back, and has detachable neck strap. it more you look awesome and covers the lumpy parts in the middle while holding up/in the top ;) having just had a baby i needed something like that. its a little pricey, about $90-$100 but worth it!

I see this type of article every year, and I still say, unless you're thin, you're not going to look good in anything. To elaborate, I'm a size 10, 142 lbs, so when I say "thin," I mean, like, 125 lbs and have a flat stomach. Yes, a tankini might cover up my stomach, but not my thighs. And it won't offer support for my chest.

I currently have a suit that I think looks as good as anything is going to look on me. It's sort of like the suits shown above for the "full-figure." It's brown, it's a one-piece but the top looks similar to a bikini with its plunging neckline, it has bead embellishments on the bikini part, and it has a halter top. It's cute, and the neckline does take away from my stomach, which can't be disguised, however, the halter top pulls on my neck and hurts, so I can't wear the thing all day. Also, the bikini has padding in it, which I don't need, so it doesn't fit the way it should. Still, it's the best I've been able to find so far.

These articles are all over the place...and all of them frustrate me a bit. How are you going to write something on Bathing Suits for EVERY Body and then only post photos of women with THE SAME BODY TYPE! Realy? That skinny woman in the "PEAR SHAPE" bathing suit is supposed to make me think that one is the one for me?

So a note to the authors: It's no secret that swim suits can be a sensitive subjesct (or why else would you post something like this?) so another obvious would be that women who might feel a tad insecure (for lack of a better word) about struting around in the most judgemental outfit we'll ever wear, are the ones who are reading this stuff! So help us out. Put pictures of women who REALLY have that particular body type- and airbrush if you really can't help yourself. Do this, and you might get some good feedback from your readers!

Rick: Because, believe it or not, not all women want men goggling at us. It makes us uncomfortable, not flattered, and those with really large chests just really don't want the attention.

I think these kind of articles are helpful, obviously a woman that is 220 pounds and pear shaped is going to look different then a woman who is 140 pounds and pear shaped... but that doesn't mean the lighter woman isn't pear shaped! The type of suit they are talkign about is the kind of style you should look for, but you have to try on a lot of suits before you find the perfect one, these are just tips. Some ppl are just too sensitive. I'm 135 pounds and hour glass. I shouldn't have a problem finding a swim suit right, b/c I'm small? WRONG! I have thighs and hips that are quite wide for my frame, I often walk out of dressing rooms feeling like I'm just not going to look cute. The cuts of the bottoms often cut into my thighs and I think i look gross. I have found that bottoms that have cute lil skirts on them work for me though. I would love to find the rouched shorts from the one suit. I also have to look for bottoms that are cut higher to the rest of the suit so its sits above my thighs. These suits work for me. So if you don't like your thighs, I would suggest something along those lines. It may NOT work for you, but its doens't hurt to try. The point of these articles is to help disguise our flaws. Take everything with a grain of salt. Goodness.

How about higher-waisted two pieces? Like many women, my tummy may not be huge but it's not something I want to reveal after having kids. That is a definite gap, no pun intended. Even boy shorts barely cover the pubic area.
