The Right Cleanser for Your Face

Every day viewers email us questions and one topic that's dominating the conversation lately is basic skin care and cleansing. We rounded up the most-asked questions and invited dermatologist Dr. Jeannette Graf over to help us get the answers.

Tell me you haven't wondered these same things:

“What’s better to wash your face with, hot or cold water?”

“How many times a week should you exfoliate?”

"How do you know the right cleanser for your skin type?"

When Dr. Graf came to the set, I didn't know where to start. There are routines we fall into when it comes to washing our face, but they're not always the right ones. The truth is, I wasn't sure if I'd simply been using products out of habit, as opposed to necessity. And how do you know what's really right for YOUR particular skin?

The good news is skin care has gotten so specific that there is a "right" match for your skin, as Dr. Graf explained. She talked a lot about how much science goes into today's products and how much of a difference a cleanser, a gentle exfoliator and a moisturizer can do for you.

I also asked her about a new product I'd started using from Olay— a mud-based cleanser called  Olay Purifying Mud Lathering CleanserIf I wear make-up for several days straight, I feel like I need something like this to really get my skin clean. The mud properties feel like they’re drawing out impurities and oils but the texture is silky, not crumbly. I feel like it's making a difference so far, but you should try it for yourself and tell me what YOU think.

That’s it for us today. Thanks for watching, you can find more at thethread.yahoo.com -- - we’ll be back soon from our Planet Hollywood studio in Times Square with a brand new episode.

I`m glad the focus has shifted to skin care as opposed to fixing things with makeup. I love olay moisturizers, however I have dry skin and I don't think I need a cleanser at all. Next time can you guys feature on face creams for preventing wrinkles.. which ingredients should we look for etc?

"Dead Sea Wonders" has an amazing facial soap based on Dead Sea minerals and pure vegetable glycerin. It's gentle on the skin and very reasonably priced, only $9 on www.deadseawonders.net
