Ugly Betty Returns With Kooky Couture

Ugly Betty returns this season with a whole new look from "Sex and the City" designer Patricia Field. They're calling it "kooky couture." Check it out.

There's been a lot of famous Bettys over the years. Betty Grable, Bette Davis, Betty of Betty and Veronica, just to name just a few. Who would have thought the most famous Betty today would be...Ugly? America Ferrera plays Betty Suarez with such heart and soul that you can't help but feel a connection with this fashion-challenged girl from Queens. And this season the show which takes place in New York, is actually being filmed here. We caught up with the cast at the premiere party for Season Three to ask them about their East Coast move, working with Lindsay Lohan and the fact that legendary stylist Patricia Field of "Sex and the City" fame, is now at the helm of the wardrobe department. I can just picture Betty pairing that poncho with some five-inch Lucite heels. The show's costumes will no doubt be on track for an Emmy nod next year. And speaking of Emmy's...

Everyone's been blogging about the disappointing Emmy Awards show earlier this week, but because my favorite show--Mad Men--won best drama, I'm willing to forgive and forget all and focus on the few moments of good red-carpet fashion. Marishka Hargitay, Kyra Sedgwick, Vanessa Williams and Tina Fey were among my favorites. Their dresses were gorgeous--but it was their skin and makeup that I focused on for some reason. They all seemed to be kind of glowing but without too much obvious foundation caked on. (Gone is that over-bronzed head-to-toe look that spelled disaster for the actress who applied product without discretion.) I know these actresses have an army of stylists and designers and make-up artists helping them get ready but I wondered, could I get this look at home, with my army of one? I'm very lucky at The Thread to have a wonderful hair and make-up artist who helps me get ready for our show. Her name is Rosanne Puchal, and in this episode of The Thread she shares her secret on how to get this same "luminous look" we saw on the Emmy red carpet. Rosanne's convinced me I can do it myself. I'll let you know how it goes.

Helping us today to get that Emmy red carpet look were two products from Olay Definity. The Olay Definity Illuminating Eye Treatment and Olay Definity Color Recapture.

Thanks for checking out THE THREAD. We'll be back again soon from our studio in Planet Hollywood with a look at TV's best handbags and our celebrity "Bag-a-holic" countdown.

In the meantime, if there's anything you see that you'd like us to help you find, post some comments below or send me an email to sar_bernard@yahoo.com.
