Calling all Book Lovers
staff
I've always loved reading and while I love reading all
these
great user posts on Shine, there's just something about
real page-turner that can't be beat. My current
obsession is Charlaine
Harris' "Sookie
Stackhouse" novels. I can't put them down!
That's why I'm so excited about our new Shine
event - "This Week in
Books" - which kicks off on Tuesday, September
15. Not only do we want to encourage you to start reading outside
of Shine but this is a fantastic opportunity for you to tell other
Shine user about your favorite books!
Here's how to get started:
- Post a review of your favorite book; we're especially
interested in new books. But don't give away too much of the
book - we don't want any spoilers!
- Tell us why you loved the book and why other Shine
readers should check it out.
- If possible include an image of the book cover (with
proper photo credit).
- Check your spelling and grammar before posting the
review.
- Tag the post "Shine Book Club"
and we will move it to the "This Week in
Books" event page.
Every time you post, we'll make sure to feature your post
in our "This Week in
Books" event. Each week we'll select a review from one
lucky blogger and feature it on the front page of Shine -
that's millions of users reading YOUR review!
"This Week in Books" will run until January 31, 2010, so
the more reviews you submit the better your chance of being
featured. You'll also have a chance to win some cool Shine
swag, but you can't win if you don't play! So
start blogging!
Thanks everyone!

Brenda,
It seems as though Shine has become the target of SPAMMERS. Although, spam has always been seen, it has become out of control.
I no longer am even interested in commenting or reading articles, because by the time I get thru all of the spam I have lost interest.
I was going to comment to you about your post, but it doesn't seem worth it anymore.

Dear Brenda,
These spammers must have me targeted. I just re-posted "My Most Scared Moments" and seconds later this long, offensive spam appeared. It was inflicted upon me by:
laceyhebgrostrycundtomracist
Please remove that spam for me, as it is long and offensively out of place in my blog.
Thank you.

P.S.
Brenda, you might appreciate the short, true story I posted about my situation.
I am a publihed poet and author. For various reasons, I am keeping my cancer a secret until after...well, until after.
That is why I came on Shine, so that I could reach people, while I am still alive, with my poetry and prose pieces regarding my cancer...things I do not wish to publish in magazines or books until "after"--for which I have made arrangements, to have my poems and stories about my situation published under my own proper name.
But Shine has become much more to me than my original purpose. I have been surprised and even shocked to discover that I have come actually to love some of the people on Shine, and I believe deep in my heart that some of them actually love me.
I never thought such a thing could be possible through Internet communication. But I suppose that when hearts and minds communicate with each other, the medium really isn't nearly as important as the message and the meaning, and the moments of communion.
Is Sky associated with you? If so, please let Sky know about my re-posting of "My Most Scared Moments." I appreciate the good words I have received from both you and Sky.
At this point in my life, sharing my soul is my greatest aim.
Love,

Dear Brenda,
Regarding books--I am a true, inveterate reader and bibliophile.
I have not, however, been reading fiction over the last nine months now. Sorry I won't be much use to you in your book review project.
But I would like to recommend that people read the short stories of Joseph Conrad, espcially "Youth."

Brenda, I am an avid reader but not the new stuff. I have "rediscovered" the public library and in these times of decresed cash flow I can not afford to pay $ 28/$35 for a new release. So, off to the library I go, check out 5-7 books (I did say avid and I speed read) and go home and get lost in mystery and intrique.I read John D. McDonald , John Sandford, James Patterson and many others so I guess I will not be able to participate but I will check in and see what everyuone is reading. And, if interested I will wait till "they' appear at my local library. I did see the latest James Patterson on the desk of the librarian but there is a waiting list so I wait...
This will be interesting!
