In fact, the New York Post recently reported that a $500 pair of socks from trendy fashion house Rodarte is currently being s

I spend way too much on socks, but these prices (and value) seem utter rediculous!

Who would spend that much on ugly socks? The same women who think ratty looking hair is "in" ?

The country is heading for really hard times we are cutting money back on our education and medicare to pay for our natinal debt, but theese idiots think that they can really charge $500 for a pair of socks maybye washington should look to the people who make these and the people who buy them for money instead of taking away from our children's education and medicare

I could make those in one afternoon. Maybe I will then sell on eBay

I'd sell them and put the money down in my 8 pair for $5 socks from Wal-mart...

The older I get the more insulted I become with this kind of behaviour. These individuals are so priviledged with way too much time and money, and either ignorant or without concience, or both, and probably have never done a hard days work in their lives. Hey! there's a world out here crumbling with need. It could use some support. I hope that for every stupid indulgence they buy they donate the same amount to some WORTHY cause. Did they learn this ignorance or were they born that way? Are they completely witless. I don't generally watch or read news (or is it all entertainment?) much largely because it's the three B's Bodies, Bombs, Bad. fatuous and fear mongering but I have to remove the word "much" it's bad for my mental health.

Hey Zaff, you hit the nail on the head--how can anyone even consider such selfishness when there are so many people hurting.. As you said, help those who need it. Believe me there are plenty around and your generosity would go so much further than your feet.

Let's see, it takes about 2 hours to knit a sock if you don't screw off while you're doing it. 2 socks means 4 hours labor plus materials. That'ws ONE HELLA PROFIT LEVEL and you're an idiot to pay it.

      Crazy rich folks

If they are hand-crocheted, they are NOT knit. Geez, buy a clue.
    • Candice  •  1 year 7 months ago
This would be why a lot of knitters/crocheters don't knit items to sell - no one wants to pay for the time that goes into making a hand-knit item. As consumers we're so focused on the price of the goods rather than the process of how the item was made.

BTW - It takes MORE than 2 hours to hand-knit/crochet a pair of socks (contrary to what another replier said). I'd know - I'm a knitter. I make socks all the time. If I have nothing else to do I can spend an entire long holiday weekend knitting a pair of socks from start to finish - and I knit fairly fast.

Gee, let me think. Where would I wear a pair of $$$$500.00 socks?? The White House, to see the that lama guy, the Pope, the red carpet, why wear shoes when you have a pair of $5h. dollar socks, right ??

NOT. Know why??? B/C they all end up stinky in the wash anyway. That's why.

There are people starving in this world. Make a donation to those people and we'll think about it. By the way, if they need food, they need socks too.

I agree that sometimes people with money 'to burn' are beyond ridiculous! They have no feeling for their fellow man who suffers from disease and starvation and this is why so many countries hate rich Americans. Its people like this who give the rest of us a bad name even though most Americans are in no way this wealthy. These rich folks who would use their blessings on stupid items like this footwear are trying to stir up gossip for themselves and just be noticed and just make the rest of us mad! They could care less about anyone else! They are the ones who are ignorant and closeminded and can't see beyond the end of their stuck-up noses. If I could find these people who want to spend their money on these things, I can also make them crocheted AND knitted socks and I would give the money to organizations to help those in need. Like abused children, the elderly and animals!!!!!!

There is a reason they are that price. Mohair is expensive and is one of the best feeling textiles out there. They use it for hats for cancer patients who have lost their hair because it's the only fiber that won't scratch their head. You can't just cut these fibers either they have fall off the animal and be picked up. It feels amazing and while I haven't had the pleasure of being able to afford either mohair or alpaca I have worked with them in my interior design classes and they feel amazing.

You pay $15 for 3 pair of socks?

Hell, you can get 7 for that price if you shop at Wal-mart.
