ENOUGH with the "you have to look 19 all of your life" nonsense. I have lived and survived pieces of this world you couldn't drag a retarded rat into. I am not ashamed of looking my age ! ! And I have earned my wrinkles and other scars - They are badges of Honor ! ! At 68 I am all woman, and happy to have lived this long. My grey hairs just add sparkle to my near black hair. Halayuya Baby ! ! !

Did it ever occur to anyone that the toxic soup of chemicals in cosmetics can lead to skin cancer? There's thousands of ingredients used in skin products in this country with no requirements of being listed on labels that are banned in the EU and other places. Think people think! We haven't got a clue about how one or even two ingredients may adversely effect us let alone interact with air-born pollutants, from the soil our food grows in or the water we drink.

Everything is a beauty/sales pitch. The marketing industry relies on women's insecurities/complexes to make a buck. This year it's "a glowing tan will hook you a sexy man", followed by the claims that a healthy, glowing tan is a sign of radiance, vitality, etc... Next year it's "percelain skin is in", these are nothing but sales pitches applied and drilled into our heads by those who are willing to make a buck!!!
As for the sunscreens not being "thoroughly tested, again, the testing is designed be to limited in it's recordable reactions so that our government can make a buck!!! Think about, over the past 5 years alone, how man medications were recalled, only just a few short weeks AFTER THE FDA APPROVED THEM!!!
If you're not totally convinced on the money making schemes of big bix corporations or our governments failure to place our health and safety first then think about the "new wave advertisements". The media has preyed on women for so long that women are either, beginning to catch onto the BS or, many of the women are already convinced and sold on the ideas that they're all doing it, so then now they've turned their focus on men. The newest line of endorsements come from those companies aiming at men's "insecurities", impotencies, or the lack of endowment.
Just be yourself, keep clean, exercise, and eat plenty of fruits and veggies, it's nature's way of saying you're ok :)

I am 59 years old and have very fair skin. I have never smoked, always used good beauty products (not expensive) and have seldom spent time in the sun. I am not vain or overly cautious, I just hate the heat and find sunbathing boring. I remember talking with my "tan" friends when we were in our early 30's. The ones who loved the sun said they wanted to be tan and didn't care what they looked like when they got older. Guess what, they're older and their skin looks wrinkled and leather-like. I've been teased endlessly about my white legs and arms, but at almost 60, I am so grateful that I faithfully use sunscreen and didn't buy into being a "bronze beauty". Don't smoke, use sunscreen and limit your time in the sun. You won't be sorry.

In my opinion nothing says skin cancer faster than slathering your pores with chemicals (esp. with current nano-technology) then walking around it in all day, night and baking in the sun. Compound that with plastic bottled water, deoderant and no wonder there is so much breast cancer.

We need a regular dose of fresh air and sunshine to thrive. You also can't get the same vitamin D from milk products or a jar that you get from the sun. That doesn't mean you have to go out and burn up... the healthy way is to gradually build up your tan so you never burn.

      Just my two cents worth.

I agree as well. Notice that the skin cancer statistics have risen since the big suncreen scare. Sunscreen baked into your skin that has chemicals in it can cause skin cancer. People living in the Meditteranean rarely get skin cancer and they are exposed to the sun all the time. It should be done gradually to build up the exposure. Be smart about it and get your skin checked periodically just to safe.

I always tan slowly or I will burn badly. I'm disappointed though because I've been using coppertone ultraguard sunscreen 50spf but just looked at the ingredients and it has nothing Zinc in it. Shame on you Coppertone. It's expensive too on my income. I'll be going out to get something else on payday. I plan to go to the beach at the end of summer and having a tan already is crucial. Daytona Beach here I come!

I agree with the over use of sunscreen. If a person will eat a very well balanced diet and take vits, a person should have no problem in the sun. I subscibe to Natural news and they have a lot of articles that tell you how to take care of yourself in the sun. Did you know that persons with MS should try to obtain daily doses of uv? You can read some very interesting studies going on about sun exposure and the BIG PHARMA and how they are brainwashing people about a lot of things. For me and my Neurofibroma, we will appreciate the sun as much as possible because I find I have less pain and I feel SO MUCH BETTER with it.

The most harmful rays of the sun are between 10am-3pm. We all need some sun because of some benefits we get from it esp. Vit D. However, strongly recommend using suncreen(UV protection)if you are exposed to the sun at any length of time. The sun's rays cause 90% of injury to the skin(sagging, wrinkles, uneven pigmentation). There has been no good scientific data showing that using sunscreen inhibits Vit D production. About 15 min. of sun exposure twice a wk will create sufficient Vit D. If you can't get that amount of sun exposure the next best way to get sufficient Vit D is through supplements(1,000IU + daily) or fatty fish such as
      salmon and/or fortified dairy....

I really don't like these articles that want you to click through a bunch of different screens for what really amounts to a very small amount of information. Just my 2 fwiw.

Actually working in a pathology lab and with holistic doctors the first reply is quit right. We DO need sun for Vitamin D and Vitamin D will prevent you from getting the worst skin cancer (which is Melanoma). In small doses (about 15 min a day to as much skin as possible) will prevent skin cancer. NEVER LET YOUR self BURN!! And natural sun screen (if your out to long) is the way to go. Since a lot of the sun screens out there (with prolonge use) can cause cancer!! People are too used to not letting their bodies get any exposure!! Fruits and veggies are also needed for all the cancer fighting agents. AND try to go organic!!
      Be healthy not trendy!!

Skin cancer is more commonly being diagnosed now for so many reasons. One being that people are more aware of it and what to look for. Another being that tanning salons are popping up on every corner and people are baking in the sun to get tan. I'll keep using my sunscreen and pop a vitamin D pill in the morning.

The sun is not toxic. Cancer is caused by four things - unhealthy lifestyle (lack of healthy food and excercise), stress, toxins, and electromagnetic. I believed the stories about using sunscreen and started using it regularly. I came down with skin cancer. I stopped using sunscreen and now my skin looks and feels better. If you must use sun screen, use organic.

lookin out- That is completely ignorant to say that sunscreen is more harmful than tanning. But if you want to risk your own health, go ahead. Zinc oxide is the active ingredient in sunscreens. It is NOT a carcinogenic chemical. Where did you even come up with that crap?

when are we going to learn to let ourselves look our age - i mean whats so terrible about that? im like a bloke when it comes to make-up - half of it is a complete foreign language to me - i scuttle through make-up departments completely overwhelmed by so many products and so much choice. id rather have an extra 10 minutes in bed (sleep is good for you and your skin) save my money and not have the stress of whether ive put my make-up on right/whether it's run etc. go bare-faced and let your natural self(whatever age that might be) shine through.
