10 Fashion Trends We Hope Disappear in 2012

These fashion trends need to disappear in 2012...These fashion trends need to disappear in 2012...Kids are dressing more fashionable than ever - which, in most respects, is a good thing. With designer Target collaborations and mini-adult looks, it's a good time to have little ones to dress.

But there are the exceptions - and they're way more offensive than fanny packs and scrunchies.

These 10 fashion trends need not return in 2012:

    Graphic tees...Graphic tees...
    1. Appalling, Headline-landing Graphic Tees
This year saw a slew of kids tees that caused a public outcry - from Forever 21's "Allergic to Algebra" to JC Penny's "I'm Too Pretty to Do Homework." There was even a "Nothing Tastes As Good As Skinny Feels" tee that ruffled some feathers. Can we make 2012 the year where these sexist, self-esteem-ruining, overly sexualized messages stop being printed?

    Sleazy outfits...Sleazy outfits...
    2. Impractical/Sleazy Outfits
Do I need to explain to a 6-year-old girl why sequin "booty shorts" aren't appropriate winter wear, GAP?

The trend was cute enough for the summer months, but we can move on now - right?

    Monster High...Monster High...
    4. Monster High
Promoted as a line of dolls to help kids embrace their inner "freaks" and "imperfections," Monster High has become wildly popular for Mattel. Yet the ultra-skimpy clothes, heavy makeup, and teeny-tiny body proportions of the dolls aren't the fashion icons I'd want for my 6-year-old - especially because of the Monster High-inspired clothing and costumes that have resulted. These dolls aren't likely to go away by 2012, but can parents stop letting their little girls emulate the sexualized style? At least Barbie wears jeans.

    8. Padded Bras for 7-year-olds
Oy. Abercrombie caused quite a stir with their padded Ashley bikini top (which is still being sold with the word "padded" hidden in the description). But there are plenty of other padded bras for the pre-pre-teens, including an AA Girls' Maidenform bra, which one commenter described as having "really thick" padding that makes her look "WAYYY bigger" than she is. Calvin Klein also has a "kids" demi bra with underwire and padding. Why? I'm not quite sure.

This isn't likely to go away before Halloween 2012, but a parent can dream.

I feel that half of the time the parents shouldnt be blames because most teens are just given the money and told to go buy what they want so they do. Most teens feel that if they can wear it in school than its acceptable and my 2 year old little cousin has a bikini and i dont think there is anything wrong with it at all!

Is it just me or are we slutting up and dumbing down little girls directly out the womb now. Seriously? Babekinis?! Why the EFF does a 1 year old new a bikini?! Padded bras for 7 year olds?! Pedophilia much!

I'm sick of the skimpy clothes for girls these days!

My wife is 30 years old, a mother of 3, and is a total knockout. She could very easily get away with wearing all of these clothes in question, but she doesn't. And guess what... THAT is what makes her so sexy. She has it, but doesn't show it. Our daughters will be raised to understand this and respect themselves enough to NOT have to be half naked to get attention from boys. They will be taught that any boy whose attention would be had isn't the boy whose attention they want. It does come down to parenting folks, not just in the moments when you are shopping at the mall for clothes, but also in the moments when you are teaching your children how to be self-respecting adults.
Sorry for posting this again, it's worth saying.

I would feel like I was pimping out my daughters if I let them wear "juicy" or buck fuddy!! What is wrong with parents????

I'm 19, and I would have been too embarrassed to even ASK my mother or father to buy me some of these outfits. Absolutely ridiculous.

Maybe if we baby boomers started to wear our jeans down to our knees instead of our waistline, the kids would stop. I mean who wants to look like their grandma. LOL

I'm 20 now, and I remember when I was younger just throwing on a t-shirt and jeans and running outside to play with my friends until it was too dark to see each other anymore. Now see young girls in shirts and leggings (if I can see your underwear they aren't pants -.-) with a ton of make-up and jewelry on walking around like this is okay and cry if they get a little bit of dirt on them. I'm even more horrified when I see them walking around in shorts so short that they barely cover anything :( I feel like things have changed so much, and as much as I want to have kids of my own I'm afraid of what kind of things they are going to be exposed to as they grow up...

Also, in what universe does a toddler need a string bikini? D:

parent could just say no, and all this style problems would stop.
    • Waffles  •  1 month 21 days ago
Speaking, not as a parent, but as a teen who has grown up being pressured to wear these aweful clothes because theyre cool, I think that another huge problem is all of the labels that everyone has to have on all the time. Its like you are nobody if you dont have a sign plastered across your butt or chest or foot that says Aero or Hollister or UGG. I for one refuse to give in and wear some rediculously expensive label just for people to accept me. Its wrong and sad, and I dont understand why it's encouraged. Is there no longer such thing as individuality? Is popularity so important to every kid that they NEED to look like everyone else? Not to mention how cheaply made it all it. UGGs fall apart the secong you get them wet. I hope parents can realize that they are allowing their kids to choose popularity over individuality, and get rid of all of the labels.

Not only are we "slutting up" their clothing, but mommies are announcing rather proudly that Jane has a boyfriend, in K-3, and Jonny has a girlfriend, etc. How foolish is all of that? When will we let children be what they are: children? If adults show no self control, how can we expect children to do so?
    • Priscilla  •  1 month 23 days ago
Remember when children were allowed to stay children and enjoy a natural time frame to grow up happy?
    • anonymous  •  1 month 20 days ago
Here was the rule when I took my girls shopping-reach for the sky, touch your your toes; if anything shows, it goes. Parents need to not cave when the kid starts complaining that they won't inappropriate items for them. You are a parent, not a friend.

Every year I have difficulty finding a Halloween costume for my 16 year old daughter. Although she is very cute and slim, she quite modest and absolutely does NOT want to do the, sexy - nurse/zombie/princess/fairy/etc. We find something and then she looks at the picture on the package and, no.....'that's too revealing'.... Usually, we just buy parts and put together something on our own. Not every girl/woman wants to do the sleazy Halloween look.
