Have most of those items and was actually just yesterday thinking of getting red flats. However, I do think that black pumps should be on the list (like someone else mentioned). Stripes are hard for me to do though, b/c I am top heavy. Pretty good list, though.

Yeah, I pretty much entirely disagree with this list. The only parts I think make any sense are the blazer, the little black dress, and the trench coat, because they're all classic, but why would I want an over-sized watch? Or black stockings? Will they really make me look as skinny as Ashley Olsen??? I wouldn't be caught dead in a leopard print scarf with a too-big tank top, and what's with the red shoes and striped shirts? This woman will NOT be adding these items to her wardrobe.

Blazer- okay, I don't own one but have been looking for a good timeless piece to add to my wardrobe.
Leopard scarf- no thank you, I do not care for animal prints
Red flats- YES! I have them and love them! (Even for my size 11 feet, and they do NOT look like canoes)
Striped shirt- another no thank you, I'm already top heavy and don't need that
Statement necklace- I own several large necklaces and wear them often, I love them.
LBD- of course! I don't know anyone who doesn't have a fall back dress, but it doesn't have to be black, just one that is classic and flattering.
Opaque black tights- I gave up tights when I hit high school, to me it's just a very juvenille look.
Oversize watch- mmmm, this depends on personal style and body type. It looks great on a petite fasionista, but for an amazonian type it can just look kind of manly.
Classic Trench- Great idea, but just any great classic goat is a staple, for me a peacoat works just as well.
Flare jeans- another thing that depends on body type, why not just a great fitting pair of jeans that looks great on you? Women with hips generally should go for a straight leg jean rather than a flared leg.

Flared jeans, check. Basic little black dress and jacket, check. striped shirts, red flats, oversized watches and neck gear, wouldn't even think about putting on my Visa!

i have a pair of red suede flats by steve madden. i wear them with jeans and they actually go with more colors than people think. of course i'm not saying that every woman should own a pair. most of the stuff on this list is not something EVERY woman should own. we all have our own taste and style. flared jeans look horrible on me. a leopard print scarf? no thank you. i like the trench coat too.

The scarf and oversized watch are ugly.....and the others are must haves? Women today have the freedom to be individuals and express themselves....must haves are don't want to haves for me...

Also to add to the list: black pumps, a nice tote with a zipper, a multitude of accessories like scarves, jewelry, hats, belts, purses and a good set of luggage.

I know as if there aren't more important things going on in the world...

I worked in fashion until 5 years ago and this bothered me then and bothers me now: every couple of years, someone gets the idea that animal print is awesome and timeless. It is not. Animal prints are always a mistake, always look cheap, and always go out of style quickly. Want to be timeless? Ditch the crazy print scarf and go for something simpler.

This is quite possibly the worst fashion article I have ever seen.....seriously, someone needs to learn the difference between need and want - none of these things is something that anyone "must" have.....and only a couple of the items are even things I would want to have

I think these articles are written from a very specific perspective, urban and also up north. I live in south FL. I own several filmy little scarves that have hardly seen the light of day (until this freaky winter, but that's another post). By the second week of april I've given up on jeans all together. To me a pair of elegant looking lightweight shorts is an absolute staple. I was soooo happy that gladiator sandals and the like became fashionable. I'd been buying them at grandma stores for years just to have a flat alternative that wasn't a flip flop. who the hell wants to wear leather closed shoes in 98+ heat and 100% humidity. and a blazer? really no. It's cool enough maybe 30 days all year to actually want to leave the house in a jacket here. My top ten must haves...
      1. classy looking shorts.
      2. flat sandals for grown ups
      3. lightweight opaque tees and tanks (it rains here every day in summer)
      4. SUNDRESSES
      5. fullish cotton skirts for ventilation
      6. cute easily portable umbrella (see above)
      7. cute hair accessories for controlling crazy humidity hair. (also above)
      8. Sunglasses w/ good UV and coverage
      9. light comfy roomy purse (faux leather or metal handles heat like Hades)
      10. lotion with SPF (lots of SPF, lots and lots of SPF)

Uh....not so sure about the striped shirt. A relative wears nothing but horizontally striped shirts and at 5'4" and about 225 lbs, that is not such a good look.

who came up with this ugly list!

I'm not sure what's going on, but I'm really surprised at the snarkiness from so many of you!

It's ok if you're not keen on an item on this list, but it's not very helpful to say "this sucks", "this is stupid".

Tell us instead what your 10 must have items are! What are the pieces in your wardrobe that you couldn't live without? We're all here to learn from each other! :)

Who the hey comes up with these sucky lists? The only things you really need are a nice blazer/jacket, great jeans, and a nice coat... it doesn't need to be a trench coat either. Ditch the leopard scarf; it most definitely is not all purpose.

Seriously...a scarf with jeans & a tank top? UGH! This is why I hate trendy fashions! I'll stick to the classics thanks.
    • mmm  •  2 years 1 month ago
This list sucks. The author has no fashion sense or sense of reality.

OMG! Y'all are cracking me up! I read all the comments before I looked at the pics and y'all are right on. Jacket, jeans, and a good leather boot with a heel are my must haves.

Ugh, horizontal stripes should be illegal they're so unflattering. Statement necklace and oversize watch? Not if you're petite, large jewelry makes small women look like a little girl playing dress up.
