    4 Secrets to Straight Hair

PM Images/Getty ImagesPM Images/Getty Images1. After blow-drying curly hair straight, wear it with a side part. The extra weight on one side will keep it from getting puffy by day's end.

    2. For the sleekest results on any tress type, use a 1500- to 1800-watt hair dryer when styling; anything less powerful allows your cuticles to curl up while you're blow-drying.

    3. Don't try to blow-dry sections of hair that are more than an inch thick -- the hot air will not be able to pass through. Opt for small sections and be sure to dry each thoroughly before moving on.

    4. Look for styling products that don't list water as one of the first five ingredients. Adding moisture to your hair after straightening it is guaranteed to make it curl up again.

    For Curly Hair
Shampoo and condition with moisturizing products to hydrate your naturally porous hair and keep it from getting frizzy, says Charles Dujic, an L.A.-based stylist. Follow with a leave-in conditioner (applied all over) and a bit of styling lotion (applied to ends only). Next, flip hair forward and blow it dry until it's just damp. Finish drying section by section, using a big, round brush. Finally, flat-iron hair to lock in shine.

    For Wavy Hair
Begin with a rich shampoo and conditioner, concentrating conditioner on ends, where your hair is driest. Flip wet hair forward and blow-dry until it's about 75 percent dry. Finish drying -- working one section at a time and starting from the front of your head -- using a big, round brush. Last, top hair with a small amount of wax, comb through it, then pass a flatiron over it.

    For Straight Hair
Even pin-straight hair requires some work before it looks truly sleek. Start with shine-enhancing shampoo and conditioner. Then, spritz damp hair with a light, leave-in conditioner and blow-dry until almost bone-dry. Last, smooth on a few drops of silicone serum and finish blow-drying using a paddle brush.

I have been fighting curly/wavy hair for years and I have a few "tricks" that help so maybe they can help others on here.

Every 3-4 months, I do a reverse perm. I have tried straightening products but they are too harsh on the hair and cause breakage. Instead, buy a perm solution at your local drugstore and instead of curling the hair, comb it straight with the waving lotion, leave on recommended time and then do the neutralizer as you normally would do. This helps by removing some of the moisture and giving the hair some texture which helps straightening.

Next, Sunsilk has a straightening shampoo and conditioner... use it. Then after washing it, let the hair almost dry naturally before blow drying it straight. I hate flat irons, too damaging but I do use a large curling iron to smoothe out the ends. People can't believe it when I tell them I have curly hair. One other tip. wash and dry your hair every other day to give your hair a break; plus, the hair looks even better on the second day once your natural oils coat the shafts.

Hope this can help someone. Good Luck!

My hair is awful and a-lot of these haven't worked, what does help is blow drying in sections from root to tip if you reverse it the ends split n frizz also using Sebastians Moisture block and Matrix Sleek line balm work well....

When's the best time to blow dry hair? After shower or the morning after washing it in the evening? Blow drying can be taxing isn't it? My hair is very thick, long, and flies away in all directions. And the salons here say the only remedy left to me is a hair rebond -- which by the way will make me go bankrupt. Any other suggestion?

#1 wont work as well as you think, first off if it does get humid and pouffs up it will get 2 times as fluffy if you do that...and then you will look retarded with one huge side and a smaller puffy side...plus a side part looks good but not when you take that big of a section to part...I have alot of thick curly hair so I know all about how big hair can get...even when you start out straight.

I hope there are ways that do not involves blow drying, just using natural ways to get straight hair.

I want to get this keratin treatment thing. I don't mind getting it blown out, but if it gets humid, I have my long strait hair with like an afro all around it from the outside layer that has frizzed. AWFUL.

i find, if you can, wash your hair the night before, let it air dry, and then straighten it the next day with a flat iron. that is less heat on your hair and less damage. Also, i use a heat protection spray on each section as i straighten it (ION, found at Sally's beauty supply for about $6-7) Then, i use the same ION brand spray gloss for shine and those stupid little baby hairs or fly-aways. if your hair gets frizzy like mine does, john freida's frizz ease spray works well too
