New technology is making it easier to take great photos. A new camera has a built in airbrush feature, and an iPhone app that even skin tone on any snapshot. But not every technological advance is designed to boost your self-esteem.
A new trend in apps that play on your physical insecurities is gaining popularity. Dubbed "body dysmorphia apps" a growing number of photo applications are being designed to distort your image for a laugh. But some apps are more disturbing than funny. Fat Booth, which claims to "supersize" your face adding a double chin and fleshy cheeks, fosters body-type intolerance and makes light of some very serious, complicated health issues. Others face-changing apps just verge on the counter-intuitive. Pimple FacePaint, for instance, adds boils, acne scars and zits to your otherwise blemish free face.
