Allure Exclusive: Coco Rocha Cuts Her Hair Really Short

Yesterday, at the Chris Chase salon in New York City, Coco Rocha--supermodel, cohost of The Face, and social-media star--had her long, reddish brown locks cut into a pixie. She invited Allure for a behind-the-scenes look at her transformation.

Rocha's decision to go short was six months in the making and spurred by the fact that her long hair had just stopped growing. "With my job, my hair is constantly dyed and fried, and it won't grow any longer, so I decided it was time to get rid of it," she said. But her work kept her from going under the scissors sooner. "This almost didn't happen today because I was supposed to do a shoot, but I was just like, 'No, this has to happen!'"
To prepare, she looked at pictures of famous pixie cuts from past and present and settled on a cut similar to Tilda Swinton's longer version of the increasingly popular look. "I love that she can wear it in multiple ways," Rocha told hairstylist Anh Co Tran, who flew in from Beverly Hills for the cut. "I still need to keep that versatility for my job. I want to be able to play with it and style it in different ways."

"The first cut is the deepest," Rocha tweeted when her husband, James Conran, took the first snip. After that, the hair started flying. Co Tran chopped off three ponytails he had formed in Rocha's hair, then washed it and cut off some more. "I'm smiling and I can't stop," she said before Co Tran blow-dried it for a second time. "And that's how I know if I like something, if I can't stop smiling." Before Co Tran created final details with scissors and clippers, Rocha looked in the mirror. "You know, I knew this would happen--I want it even shorter on the sides!"
So, after a few final snips, some spritzes of texturizing spray, and a couple of side-to-side hair tosses, Rocha looked into the mirror and smiled again. "It's exactly what I wanted, to a tee. I'm freaking out, but in a really, really good way!"
