Are You Offended by Forever 21's Maternity Line?

    Forever 21,
a popular clothing store that specializes in trendy, affordable duds for young people, is launching a maternity line called Love21, leading some to wonder if the cheap-chic chain is appealing to pregnant teens, or even encouraging teen pregnancy.

While Forever 21 denies the accusations through a Twitter message and their press site, others can't help but see controversial coincidences. For instance, the line is currently available in five states: Arizona, Alaska, California, Utah, and Texas, three of which make the list of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the country, according the Guttmacher Institute.

What do you think? Is Love21 just an affordable way to stay on top of the latest fashions regardless of an expanding belly, or does this trendy maternity line help make teen pregnancy trendy, as well?

I've seen women as old as 50 wearing clothes from forever 21. Maybe they thought that some pregnant women would like to look nice and not frumpy. I think it's a good idea. Besides, clothing is hardly what a teenager thinks about when it comes to pregnancy.

I dont have an issue with it because its the time that we live in. I do have an issue with bigger sizes for plus sized women not being available at Forever 21. Now that is offensive!

I don't like the tight belly hugging tops.

Some of the styles probably can be worn by non-pregnant women.

Well, just look at the model. She doesn't look too much like a teen to me. Besides, alot of women in their 20's do get pregnant, so shouldn't they be able to get something fashionable to wear?
And let's take the store's NAME into play. Forever 21. I know teens shop there, but it particularly aimed at the early 20s.
But really, if a teenager does get pregnant, I hightly doubt it's because there's cute stuff to wear, infact, if she's not already chubby, she probably won't want to get pregnant, just because she doesn't want to gain weight.

ridicolous, and besides teens who are pregnant DO need a place to shop, just because its controversial doesn't mean they shouldn't offer it. And besides this is a private business, who cares what they offer or don't offer?

Forever 21 appeals to teens and women in their 20's and 30's. I think a younger looking maternity line is needed. I am 25 and am 9 weeks pregnant. I have started to look at maternity clothes and they are all old looking. (It's bad enough that I am a petite and stores seem to think all petites are 40+ old women who like elastic pants.) I welcome the addition of clothing that is reasonably price (anything that looks good in maternity seems to be expensive) and still look my age. I don't want the "mom jeans". Thank you Forever 21 for trying to reach to an untapped market. Now if they would please carry more clothes like ones I could wear to work (maternity clothing is limited on business attire) that would be great.

I agree with Christina, teens are not going to get pregnant just because of a clothing line. Besides older people shop there as well. I had a 40 year old professor that admitted she shopped there now and then. As well, my family leaves on a military base where there are lots of pregnant women around the age of 20 years that I know wish they could find maternity clothes that weren't frumpy. Forever21 is smart also in where they have placed the clothing line. If statistics show more people between the ages of 16 and 25 are going to buy, and there are a high amount of pregnant women in that age range in a certain location, then they would be stupid not to cater to them.

Im 27 and I shop there. I dont think it will promote teen pregnancy at all.

i'm 30 and i still shop there sometimes. the title of this article is stupid. why would anyone be offended by a maternity clothing line? who cares.

the company that owns forever 21 has many more lines - including ones for young children & men - so why the hell not a maternity line?

I am 25 years old and shop at Forever 21. This is stupid.

So we are supposed to discourage teens by only selling ugly maternity clothes? Yeah right.

I'm not offended by the line, but rather this article. As a young college student I really do not understand where this idea of being pregnant is "hip". I don't know anyone in my age group who thinks getting pregnant is cool and does it on purpose. I know a few people who have gotten pregnany by accident, and believe me they didn't think it was cool. I'm sick of people claiming that people my age think we're doing it on purpose - stop these dumb accusations. By the way, I do think that it is a great line for women who are pregnant no matter their age.

I didn't even think about pregnant teens, I pay them no attention except to SMH at them for thinking (or not thinking,) that a lifetime of responsibility is "the ish" when most teens and even those my age just want to be carefree while they still can be. I'm 24 and haven't even had the first child, but I would consider forever 21's maternity line when I do decide to start a family. Maternity clothing is WILDLY expensive for no reason! Elastic is one of the least expensive notions, why would anyone pay exorbitant amounts of money for it? Maternity clothes should be no more expensive than regular clothing.

Well, teen pregnancy HAS definitely become trendy. My niece is one of *those* girls. All she could think about from the time she was 14 was baby-baby-baby! Her friends all had babies by their senior year of high school and she just HAD to have one too as soon as she graduated [all paid for by welfare by the way].

I suppose that's what 8 years of Bush and $30 million dollars of abstinence-only school programs have taught kids. Teen pregnancy is cool and you won't have to work if you have a baby at 16.

Those states have the highest birth rates, period. Not just teens, but all ages!

They'd be a rather stupid business if they decided to concentrate their efforts in states where the birth rate is low. It's Business 101.

Are you going to find snow skis in Miami or in Denver?

I am 28 and when i have the money i like shopping there, they have cute cloths, and if i was to get pregos again, I would go there to see what they had, if its affordable, Maternity clothes are not cheap! and what you can get thats, affordable for most ppl, is ugly! So more power to them, and no girl r not going to get prego just so they can buy clothes there. thats just silly.

first of all pregnancy is not a "trend" with teens it's a decision and for some its led by the thought : "it wont be so bad." or : "i can do this" either way i can promise you for chicks that are pregnant it is a relief to not wear flowery mumu's and showcasing overalls and for forever 21 its just a way to make more cash no more no less . take it from me a 30 year old that was pregnant at 18 and just had a baby. no matter how old you are , if you're pregnant the best way to keep your spirits up is to look good nowadays its just easier to do so
