If I were the betting kind, I definitely wouldn't have put money on Ashlee Simpson emerging into some sort of budding style star-at least for anyone other than the Wet Seal set.
But the evolution is working, my friends-she's looking more soigné than ever these days. Witness this pulled-back, braided, and side-swept style-it's a look, but it doesn't come off as one bit costumey or too buried in references, so I don't feel compelled to scream, "We GET it! You're Greek/the prima ballerina in Swan Lake/Heidi the Mountain Girl."

And that prim little manicure? There's something about its neutral, light pink color that makes me want to hand over my bank details and social security number-it just looks trustworthy, even with that rock and roll rose tattoo (is it real?) right next to it. The whole package works, lady!
If it's true that Ash is preggers (Did you see her on Today saying, "Only time will tell"?), I imagine her style will say the same: Accessories and haircuts always fit.
