One of the biggest perks of advancements in social media is that celebrities can now connect with their fans on a much grander scale. Gone are the days of fan mail and waiting outside of a concert hoping to catch a glimpse of a performer. Nowadays you can send them a tweet or write on their Facebook wall, and if you're lucky, they'll respond. This has also presented an opportunity for fans to come together and form the 21st century's answer to fan clubs, and often times the celebrities themselves will christen the group with a name.

Everyone from Lady Gaga (who affectionately dubbed her super fans "Little Monsters") to controversy magnet Chris Brown (who always has "Team Breezy" defending his every action) has a staunch band of devotees who have used social media to form small subcultures with one another.

We couldn't help notice the rising trend, so we rounded up the most active fan bases and their names in the slideshow above.
