A classic fairy tale gets an elaborate revamp with a wardrobe to match when Charlize Theron stars as the evil queen Ravenna opposite Kristen Stewart in Snow White and the Huntsman. A foil to both Disney's cheerier adaptation and Mirror Mirror's whimsical treatment of the Brothers Grimm story earlier this year, Huntsman is decidedly darker, more haunting, and visually intricate. To amplify Theron's wicked aura, costume designer and Academy Award winner Colleen Atwood constructed a series of severe looks, excruciatingly detailed, and handmade from mainstream materials like silk, leather, and mesh. Dresses, robes, and headpieces often contained the offbeat and bizarre-rooster feathers, Thai beetle wings-making the Queen as well-heeled as she is ruthless. On the occasion of the film's release, we compiled a list of some of our other favorite best-dressed fantastical female villains.
