Blondes May Have More Fun, But Brunettes Are Cheaper

Splash NewsSplash NewsOr maybe we should just say brunettes are richer. It's pretty safe to assume that when a recession hits, people are going to cut corners financially, and for plenty of women, salon visits get crossed off the list immediately. After all, an afternoon of cut and color can easily run you $100-$500 (or more, depending on your location). Recently, Nicole Richie may have chosen to darken her hair to "feel smarter" or whatever, but when sun-worshipping women in Florida are sacrificing their beloved highlights against their will, you know the economy is bad. Apparently, stylists in Jacksonville have noticed that women are going darker to save money, because maintaining the blonde is just plain more expensive. Makes sense. We'd also argue that going to the salon for a few hours every four to six weeks for root touch-ups and other blonde upkeep is costly in terms of time, and we all know what that's worth. Eh, we'd urge poor Floridians, and any other women who are cooling it out in the dark-haired zone, to look at the bright side: You're also doing way less damage to your hair. Going back to your roots is sorta like getting a conditioning treatment! Sorta ... [News4Jax]

'Cheaper' is not the correct word usage: Try more like 'Cost Effective' and a saver on ridiculous expenses in life, which only shows true intelligence and not only revealing them as for the cares of Earthly treasures of this planet. As far as blondes: I have had a few girlfriends in my past that were blondes, and all they ever wanted to do was Party, and make a competition of: who can get the most guys as proving who the prettier one is. How False all of my blonde past friends were! And I am sure, that them continuing to live the lifestyle of a Partier, I am sure they have vain successes too.

In the long run (over an entire lifetime), it might be a good idea for younger girls to keep their natural color as long as possible. Maybe there are temporary spray (or other) golden highlights that would be safe.

My opinion: When a person is healthy thier given hair color looks best.

Same for me Libby... I dyed my hair darker and it looked greenish because the lighter color could still show through... then I spent a some money trying to get it back to blonde... I guess I'm not a "richer" blonde afterall :)

well im naturally light blond.but did you know that brown hair is shiny no matter what, even if its unhealthy.so if a blonds is luminous you know her hair is healthy id rather be able to know if my hair was healthy

I just love hearing all of these stories about home hair color. I am a color specialist and I do color correction for a living. You wouldn't believe the messes I have seen!! Even if it works for a while chemistry is a funny thing and it can go haywire on you. I earn $60 an hr for my color corrections so in the long run it doesn't save you any money!

Your best bet is to find a stylist who will work with you and help you get the best haircolor for your money.

Oh PUH-LEEZE. You can get a box of Revlon Colorsilk for $4.99. You can even splurge for a L'Oreal and pay $12. It takes less than 30 minutes to touch up your roots and brighten your hair.

Orrrr you could have naturally blonde hair and be just as rich.

yup really blonde now, but so expensive, going light brown this weekend for awhile doing it myself all one color. Colorsilk works really good.

well it also depends I am a dark brunette so going blonde is wicked expensive. But for blondes staying blonde might be easier and cheaper.

I have naturally dirty blonde hair, and I highlight it myself. Of course...I went to beauty school about half way,(until I decided I'd never have the patience or creativity to do it for a living) so it was just long enough for me to learn about color and chemical processes. If I wasn't able to do it myself, I could never afford it. I have tried to go darker in the past, but the color never looks rich, it's always sort of ashy afetr a couple weeks. So for me going dark didn't save $$ cuz I was going back every 4 weeks instead of 8!

if your spending $100-$500 on your hair each month, you have issues, i can get my hair cut for under $25 and i can color it myself for no more then $10. $35 vs $100-$500. i mean come on who really needs to spend that much on their hair

It is healthier for your hair to stay with your natural color. . .lucky for me, I'm a red-head so I don't have to worry about hair color (I worry about sunscreen. lol!)

i agree with mims. i think its crazy that women spend that much on their hair!

I agree with this article - I just now started getting highlights in mym dark brown hair, but am going to have to go back to one color - because of the cost of upkeep.

I have always colored my own hair. And most of that time I bought the cheapest Clairol products I could find. Now, though, with some gray showing I use Garnier Nutrisse. The color lasts so much longer.
