Canadian Designer Stirs Plus-Size Model Controversy at London Fashion Week

Dangerously thin models have been a controversial topic in the past, but at a recent London fashion show, it was a trio of plus-sized models who caused a commotion. The Daily Mail reports that when Canadian designer Mark Fast announced to his staff that three women who wore sizes 10 and 12 (UK sizes 12 and 14) would be in his show, two members of his team apparently quit in disgust.

The 5 Most Outrageous Things Seen at New York Fashion Week.

The show was saved by two last-minute volunteers who worked late to get the collection together. "We are glad we stuck to our vision," Amanda May, Fast's creative director, said. "We wanted women to know they didn't have to be a size zero to wear a Mark Fast dress-curvier women can look even better in them."

Size 10 used to be the sample sixe for all high end clothing. Sizes 10 to 14 ARE NOT PLUS SIZES! What is wrong with the conception of these desogners and models. They are promoting unhealthy practices.

The model above IS NOT GROSS OR OBESE!!! Any one who thinks she is needs their head examined pronto (and needs to overcome the brainwashing!!!)

What I find gross is those walking skeletons (are they are really women?????) with bones jutting out everywhere and look like they are about to collapse from lack of food, NOW THAT IS DISGUSTING!! and how sick is our society to think that looking skeletor is "beautiful" cuz IT IS NOT!!!

ARE YOU KIDDING MEAN SHE IS NOT PLUS SIZE SHE LOOKS BEAUTIFUL AND JUST BECASUE SHE IS NOT PENCIL THIN DOES NOT MEAN SH IS PLUS SIZE

I think is would be a good idea for designers to not only march their skeleton size 0 models who look like they could be an ad for the undernourished around the stage, but also real women with curves and I mean those that are size 14, 16 and 18. Not to mention it wouldn't be a bad idea to have even some larger models to show bigger women how to be stylish and look good instead of strutting their stuff around in sloppy baggy pants and tee shirts. Come on Designers get some balls and show all in your shows

So sad. We are too thin, we are too big. Wow, this is like the
story of the 3 Little Bears. So, who of us is just right?

it's good to have EVERY woman of EVERY size represented. Every woman is not meant to be big or small, so it shouldn't be a battle of big vs. small.

You have women who are naturally lean and healthy (like myself) as well as women who have a bigger frame and still healthy. So people shouldn't get caught up in who's healthy because it's all relative to that woman skeletal structure.

What idiots! Quitting over having a few not-yet-plus-sizes women in a fashion show? That is just despicable.
I would quit a show if the designer uses women who are confirmed to be anorexics, however.

This model looks Beautiful! A size 10 looks like a 10 to me! Beauty is beauty and shines through.

To all those women shocked to see that a size 10 is "plus-sized", everything is relative. Women love to cite the fact that Marilyn Monroe was a size 10-12, but as a result of vanity-sizing, a size 10 in her day was essentially the equivalent of a size 8 (even perhaps 6) today. The fact of the matter is that at the end of the day, neither the number size you wear nor the number on the scale matters. The beautiful thing about this fashion line is not the number size the model wears but the fact that the designers are starting to represent all sizes in the spectrum. Get past the numbers ladies, and start feeling beautiful no matter what size you are!

I think this model looks normal. Not like the bulimic, aneroxic models that they usually show. They look like they are junkies they are so skinny and not healthy looking at all. I never knew size 10-12 was considered a plus size. wow I must be a frigging hog then.

Mark Fast I'm going to have to check out his clothing line.

you know what's really sad...when I was a model (and anorexic) the standard size was a 6. Now it is a 2. No onder people think that a 10 is a "plus" size. It used to be 12-14 was the ideal plus model size. How sad.

BRAVO to this designer and the two volunteers that stuck it out - as for the other schleps that couldnt handle a size 10 WOMAN should be ashamed of themselves..idiots, truly arrogant people.- a woman without hips, thighs or CURVES really isnt a woman but an adult who never went through puberty ... oi!
BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO ... and in reality a size 10/12 is not plus size ...

It is nice to see more realistically sized women modeling designer clothes, for once. I applaud Mr. Fast for his courage in bucking the stick-figure model trend, and wish him much success with his collection. I hope women of NORMAL proportions flock to stores to buy his clothes!

Plus size??? I would give my first born to be a size 10. People are crazy.
    • dobelovergirl  •  2 years 8 months ago
I can't believe that ANYBODY would think that sizes 10-12 are PLUS. Jeez. The workers who quit are morons. Glad the designer is showing clothes that regular people can wear, not just the "starved skinny" set. Good for him, sticking to his guns.

I thought the woman in the photo looked very nice. Her dress was flattering. I'm tired of seeing size 0 models, what women who has kids is a size o anymore? I want to be a healthy 10-12 any day.

People who created the cult of anorexia at be held responsible for problems adjusting to society of our children. My daughter is only 4 but I'm terrified of what her future row models will be.
