Cyndi Lauper to Open for Betsey Johnson -- Plus, Our Dream Designer/Singer Duos

A match made in quirky heaven? With Fashion Week just around the corner, Betsey Johnson announced that '80s icon Cyndi Lauper will play during her New York Fashion Week presentation on September 11th. Personally, we can't think of a better theme song for Betsey's playful, kitschy designs than "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun."

The Cyndi/Betsey collab got us thinking … what other fashion designers and singers would we like to see join forces? We came up with a dream wish list for the musicians we'd love to see perform live at Fashion Week:

Vampire Weekend at Tommy Hilfiger

Who better to open for the King of Prep, Tommy Hilfiger, than ultra preppy band Vampire Weekend? After all, they do have a song titled "Oxford Comma" and another one called "Campus." Plus, Vampire Weekend's single "Holiday" was the soundtrack to a Tommy Hilfger commercial last year … so we're guessing it shouldn't be too hard for Tommy to book 'em.

Taylor Swift at Marchesa

Taylor Swift looks stunning every time she wears a Marchesa gown on the red carpet, and her pretty love songs would be the perfect pairing for Marchesa's gorgeous, romantic designs. We'd love to see her open with "You Belong With Me."

Florence and the Machine at Prabal Gurung

As one of the hottest young designers, Prabal Gurung's Fashion Week collections are always a beautiful mix of feminine and haunting, so we can't think of a better live performer for his runway show than Florence Welch. Our playlist suggestion? Open with "Dog Days are Over" and close with the newer "Shake It Out."

Jack White at Rick Owens

Never one to "sell out," it would take a lot of coaxing to get indie rocker Jack White to perform at Fashion Week, but we wish he would make an exception for avant garde designer Rick Owens. We'd love him to play his newer song "Love Interruption" as Owens' glamour-meets-grunge leather designs walk down the runway.

Kanye West at Kanye West

Did you forget that Kanye West is a fashion designer? Well, he is. And he's showing his newest collection during Paris Fashion Week this October. Who better to open for the singer-turned-designer than Kanye himself? We think he should he play "Theraflu," his ode to fashion that mentions "dinner with Anna Wintour" and suggests you "tell PETA my mink is draggin' on the floor."
