Do You Remove Your Arm Hair?

Our recent post on the pressure on women to get rid of body hair sparked quite a bit of debate-both with readers and around our office. One especially prickly (sorry) area seems to be arm hair. One friend confessed to us that during a manicure at an upscale Manhattan nail spa, after massaging lotion on her arms, the technician smoothed the girl's arm hair perfectly into place, practically creating a comb-over. The girl, who had never been self-conscious about her naturally blonde arm hair before, spent the rest of the day paranoid that the nail technician was hinting that she should wax it.

5 Tips for Getting a Great Wax

Another friend told us that during a recent trip to Los Angeles, the friend she was staying with refused to take her out on the town until she agreed to get her arms waxed, snipping to her, "No one in LA has arm hair, so we simply can't go out with you looking like that." Whoa! What do you think-is fuzz on your arms ever a faux pas?

well, for me, I don't think there's a problem in growing the arm hair,, I think females with hairy arms are so HOT & SEXY. I just don't know why!

I have been blessed with my mom's (Scandinavian) lack of body hair, I have to hold my arm up to a lamp to even see the few wispy blond hairs on my arm. But I've had a lot of friends who were Italian, or Greek, or Eastern European Jewish, who were using Nair or wax on their arms since elementary school. Now granted, I was always jealous of their thick, luxurious waves of hair when I had a thin mass of dry, uncontrollable frizz. Their problem was easier to fix than mine. I'd rather have arm hair that can be removed and nice hair on my head than no arm hair and weak, frizzy hair I can't do anything about.

Oh, this is a good topic! I HATE my arm hair. I am currently trying to find a salon who will dye it for me, but I REALLY want to wax it. What's the deal with that?? How is the growing back situation? Is it acceptable to wax it? I's appreciate everyone's opinion.

I don't have very heavy arm hair so it's not an issue for me, but I think it's really out of hand if women get ostracized for arm hair. Holy cow, it's ok to be human! I mean already the trend is to get rid of your eyebrows, what's next?

I bleach mine mildly hairy arms -- can't imagine going to the trouble/expense of having them waxed, and can't imagine being dexterous enough to do it myself. Bleaching = less upkeep -- I do it once every five or six weeks or so.

I don't wax because I don't think it needs to be GONE, but I do trim my arm hair with the number 2 guide on a set of clippers so it is short buy still lays down. Cheap, and problem solved! For those who would like it to be eventually gone, waxing does get it to slowly grow back in thinner...

I have dark hair, and a lot of it. But quite frankly, I could care less. Yes, I shave my legs, but I find this obsession with not having body hair to be ridiculous.

i have hair on my arms (and it's dark but thin) and yes i am insecure about it when i am around people who don't have any, but i also don't want to keep up w/ the maintentance(?) of waxing it or shaving it off like i know some people do and then having the stubble. in the end i prefer to just not do anything. now unless they miracously(?) find a way that you can just remove it once and it not coming back anymore, than I will have it removed, but until that day comes i'll just mind my own business

I use an Epilady (remember those?) to get rid of most of it --the longer pieces. I don't go hog wild tho --a little fuzz is normal. I just don't like the long stuff.

In the summer my arm hair turns blonde but sometimes I shave it off just because. Is this really an issue? and here I am writing about it SEE Ya!

I'm going to admit it right here - I shave my arm hair. I'm Sicilian and it really bothered me that I looked halfway to an ape, so one day when I was a teenager I slathered both my arms in shaving cream and had at it with a razor.

The initial defoliation took FOREVER (not even kidding, an hour later I was finally smooth). Ever since I have been touching it up daily, but I shave my legs daily too and it only takes 2 minutes max in the shower. Those 2 minutes are a welcome sacrifice for smooth soft skin and an even tan.

Oh, good lord no. Really? Who has that kind of time or vanity?

Why are women trying to look more and more like Dr. Evil's hairless cat?

I shave it off, but it's because I do swim at my school. It's just something extra to do in the shower, I don't find it odd to do or not do at all. It's just personal preference.

I have VERY thick arm hair and its black!
I was always very insecure about my arm hair but my boyfriend doesnt mind it so why should I right?
Well sometimes I still do and I plan on getting laser hair removal.
But this is costly and takes a long time. Any suggestions besides shaving?

I have more freckles than hair on my arms, but arm hair doesn't disturb me on anyone.

I am not a big fan of arm hair, but don't feel like exerting the effort to wax it and go through the awkward growing back phase. It's not super dark or thick, so I think it's better to leave it alone. And especially if you are blonde, I don't think it's an issue. I am guilty of seeing women with very heavy arm hair and wondering if it bothers them or how they are comfortable leaving it that way because I'm not sure if I would be.

Speaking as a guy, I can tell you that there are those of us who think arm hair on a woman is not only not a big deal, but is positively sexy. Don't get all upset about it...just leave it alone. Negative comments say more about the person making them than they do about you.
