    Fall's Best New Dark Polishes

Bruise I love dark nail polishes, but black shades are just a little too goth for me. That's why I'm obsessed with the latest deep not-black shades. They look amazing on short nails--or on toes. (Save money and do your own pedicures at home.)

The shimmery charcoal of Butter London Lacquer in Chimney Sweep, $12, is my absolute favorite du jour. It looks like liquid metal and goes with everything.

The rich shimmery brown of Sally Hansen Diamond Strength No Chip Nail Color in Chocolate Chiffon Frost, $9, is understated enough for work but not a snooze.

Revlon Nail Enamel in Midnight Affair, a dark, dark blue, $9, peeking through a pair of peep-toe heels is completely sexy.

Doesn't it seem like purple tones are the hottest thing right now? OPI Nail Lacquer in Louvre Me Louvre Me Not, $8.50, is the richest royal purple, with a teensy hint of sparkle.

Rescue Beauty Lounge Nail Polish in Bruised, $18, is a perfect brownish plum shade that complements both light and dark skin. I'd wear it to a party, instead of my typical bright red.
