We've seen extravagant backpacks, million dollar shoes, and designer socks, but 24K gold shoelaces?! Talk about unnecessary!

The Today Show presented the glistening shoe accessory, which sells for $19,000 a pair. According to the retailer, Mr. Kennedy, "when you purchase a pair of gold laces, they will be delivered by security and laced for you anywhere in the world." Hey, if you're spending that kind of money on shoelaces, you'd better receive the royal treatment! If you don't have $19,000 to spare and still want a little sneaker bling, Mr. Kennedy offers a silver pair of shoelaces for a more modest price of $3,000. Which is... um... more than we'd EVER EVER EVER pay for a pair of shoes, let alone just the laces. But we wouldn't be surprised to see Kanye West lace them into a pair of Jordans!

According to Mr. Kennedy, these are the world's first and only precious metal shoelaces and each pair is handmade in Colombia over approximately 120 hours. The company name pays tribute to Harvey Kennedy, who is credited with inventing the shoelace in 1790. We wonder what Harvey would think of these bad boys!

We'll admit gold laces are a fun idea and would look awfully cute laced into Chuck Taylors, so if you're looking for some without an expensive precious metal involved check out this pair currently on Amazon for $3.49.
