Wenlan Chia, the designer of TwinkleBackstage at this morning's Twinkle show I got to interview the designer, Wenlan Chia. Her inspiration for the show was "If Blondie went to the '60s to meet Yoko Ono." Love it! She said that although her typical palette is more muted (last season had lots of blues and greys) with a softer silhouette, "this collection is stronger...sometimes it's good to against yourself." In this case, we'll have to agree, as the black and white, geometric prints, clever use of texture, slim fitting trousers and bold colors move Twinkle into a land it has yet to visit. Wenlan says the girl who wears her clothing must "like adventure, have an imagination, and have fun with fashion." Sign us up!
The models makeup was very simple: matte face, silver shimmer on the cheekbones, loads of individual false lashes, mascara, a matte orange lip, and loose gold shimmer on the eyes Oh and we learned a tip: The makeup artist said when applying a loose shadow it's best to use your finger and push--brushes don't set the powder as well and won't be as accurate.
As for the hair, Redken stylists took about 30 minutes to achieve the messy, '60s hippie rocker look by using a 1" curler, their Fabricate heat texturizer, and Hot Sets 22 thermal setting mist. They pinned the curls, and when they took them out, the stylists back-combed to add volume. Maybe we can learn to do this with some practice! CND did the awesome nails by using Brilliant White polish, Ivory Coast effect and the Super Matte topcoat. Very mod!
Photos from the show aren't even online yet, so I can't post any runway looks--there's are fresh out of the Bryant Park tents! I'm heading back out, but stay tuned for more reports today on Jason Wu (first lady Michelle Obama's favorite) and Cynthia Rowley.
