French ELLE Dubs Curvy Cover Model “The Body”

Courtesy ELLECourtesy ELLEThis month's French ELLE features Tara Lynn, a voluptuous American-born model, wearing a lacy top and hot pants on the cover of its latest issue. The issue also provides "Tips from curvy and stylish girls."

Related: French ELLE article's racist remarks sparks boycott

This is Tara Lynn's second cover for ELLE and she appeared on Italian Vogue's June 2011 issue along with two other plus-size models above the headline "True Beauty." In a video produced by ELLE, Lynn says that fuller-figured girls shouldn't be apologetic about fashion and should wear what makes them feel good.

While the likes of designer Karl Lagerfeld may find women's curves unfashionable-he recently called singer Adele, "a little too fat," (he's since apologized)-Rubenesque beauties seem to be having a fashion moment. Italian Vogue has launched a website called Vogue Curvy which offers "curvy icons" and tips for dressing a rounder figure. Adele, herself, will be gracing the March 2012 cover of VOGUE.

Ironically, Adele recently told People Magazine, "I've never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines. I represent the majority of women and I'm very proud of that." Now it appears that at least some of those models want to look like Adele.

What do you think? Should more mainstream fashion magazines use curvier models? Let us know in the comments below.

I think most people are too focused on appearance. While it is good that a fuller spectrum of women are being represented in beauty and fashion magazines, these magazines are still stressing appearance over beauty. I call my daughters beautiful (5 yrs & 3 yrs old) and will strive to teach them the difference between attractive and beautiful. It is not wrong to be attractive, but I don't believe it should be the focus. I want my girls to be beautiful. 90% of the attractive girls I met when dating were fairly aware of their allure on men. I usually lost interest quickly. I always preferred a girl who was a bit unsure about her physical attraction. She was 10x more likely to be down to earth, modest, humble, etc. Any woman who exudes the qualities of beauty (patience, kindness, humility, etc.) will find greater happiness than seeking to be more attractive. The kind of man you'd want most likely will quickly forget minor physical flaws and attractive qualities magnified in a woman who develops beauty...yes, a bit old fashioned, but beauty truly remains an inner quality that reflects outwardly over time.

Both men and woman who focus on attraction as a primary dating selection will meet with likely disappointment over the long haul. I am not saying that attraction has no place in dating or relationships. It is an integral part of dating, but should not be the primary focus. Chances are you can nurture good relationships without being the eye catcher the world insists you must be.

You, sir, need to be on the cover of Time magazine!

Why not have ALL shapes and sizes representing everyone? Jeez, time to evolve people...and we, the "consumers" need to start boycotting products that cast people in a negative light, or worse yet, not at all...tired of this crap and us following along like sheeple...

Dear World, why don't we all stop body shaming each other and appreciate the body that we have? There is no such thing as a "real woman" size. A real woman is a woman that exists in the real world. Stop calling each other fat, stop calling each other anorexic and appreciate your life and your health.

A beautiful lady! I would love to see more of this here in the United States. If we can start focusing on real people I think this will go a very long way to solving societal ills. As a mother of two young daughters I applaud magazines who show REAL beautiful women. Even women who are not a size two can live happy, healthy and productive lives. I am a size 20 and I dress very well ( bargain shop A LOT!) and take care of my skin and hair. Not all heavy women are slobs and if the retail chains would open their eyes they would see that we are also NOT BLIND.

Next time you walk into TARGET, take a look around you as you walk past the women's clothing. It goes from Junior's (short skirts and skimpy tops) to Misses (cute and stylish dresses, jeans and blouses) to Maternity (where they actually have some very pretty things!) and then onto the WOMEN'S PLUS. Without even knowing you have reached the women's plus side you can look around and see the difference. Shapeless tops, dull colors, a lot of black and sweatshirts and stretch pants. Why can't they see that heavy women want clothes that are every bit as flattering and fashionable as any other woman?

It is my dream to one day own a clothing store where I can successfully show the world that heavy women can be beautiful if given the same opportunities to dress like other women.

Finally. That actually looks like a girl. Most models don't,

You are half right. Models look gaunt and unhealthy, and this woman looks fat and unhealthy.

Where is the moderation ? These extremes ?!!!!!!

fat and unhealthy????? i suggest that you get your eyes checked ..... and clean those glasses ..... she may be bigger than you might be used to seeing because she's closer to real women but fat and unhealthy ????? not ....

This is so empowering to females of all ages. Iam 51 years old and seventeen was my first fashion , girl magazine, that I bought. Today I buy it for my 16 year old daughter. I also used to read Glamour, but have second thoughts about my daughter reading it today because of the articles about sex, which are explicit and in my mind demeaning to women. I know that portraying real life models, unretouched will help with self-image. I am a strong supporter of that and am very proud of the young lady who is fighting to change the portrayal of the models.

Tara Lynn is perfect in every way. More young women should be this beautiful.

Oh, and btw...heavier people who exercise are far healthier than thin people who don't!

      Perfection!!!!!!!!

She's flat with big hips. Doesn't do it for me. Sorry.
    • E  •  22 days ago
She's not plus-sized; she's normal and healthy. If I had to guess, I'd say she's in her ideal body weight range.

This is what a real woman should look like. Healthy, gorgeous, and PROUD of every part of herself.
      • Some Guy 22 days ago
No, she's fat and at risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes II, etc...etc....
      • Aiesha 22 days ago
If you think this girl is fat you might want to have those outdated glasses you have on fixed.
      • Jessica 22 days ago
She's not really "fat". You're just an idiot who has been more affected by the medias portrayal of women than women have been.

When I was young, I was a fashion writer. A famous Italian designer (possibly Galliano or Givanchi) said ALL WOMEN ARE BEAUTIFUL. I thought he was crazy. But now that I am 64, I understand what he meant. The female essence is what he was talking about. And all women have it, even if they don t realize or celebrate it. He was a true Italian LOL and appreciated women. Beauty really does emanate from inside a woman s soul. By being yourself. And loving yourself...and then others.

This young lady is NOT fat in the slightest degree. You don't see any bat wings, there are no signs of chub rub burns, and you can see her neck. She doesn't have cankles nor do I detect cellulite (not that thin girls don't have cellulite) she is a healthy size. Folks are getting a little tired of looking at women who look like concentration camp survivors in a Chanel. Bones protruding, sunk in collar bones, rib sticking out and the like, enough is enough already!
      • none 22 days ago
Definitely not. She has a flat stomach and smooth skin. Some body types are naturally larger without being fat.
This lady looks awesome and sexy-because she's built with curves and, more important, carries herself with confidence.

Some people women especially eat right, work out, etc. who are at a healthy recommended body weight are curvier than others due to genetics, bone structure, and often muscle distrubution. Also there are women who take care of themselves well(maybe better than others) and stay on the overweight side of things due to medical issues.

I'd hazard a guess that she looks about a hundred times better than anything you have ever cozied up next to! :)
      • Edward 21 days ago
        A hundred times heavier maybe!
    • Edward  •  Seattle, Washington  •  22 days ago

People need to see a variety of shapes in magazines. And another thing.…It really bugs me that others make these assumptions regarding a person's weight. For example, when I was in college I was frequently asked if I suffered from anorexia. My answer: habe you seen me put away a chicken fried steak? Now I'm sixty and people ask if I've jas a weight problem all of my life. Go figure. (BTW I was former stick-figured teen model) People need to get over these body image obsessions.

OK those of you calling this model fat do relize that she is like a size 12 in US sizing right? Take off your rose colored glasses and look around. Most women are that models size and happy healthy and active.
    • Anthony  •  22 days ago
She is fat. This is why men are marrying foreign women from russia, eastern europe, and latin-america. No sane man wants fat women. We want young, thin, leggy, and toned.

i guess plus size and voluptuous means any one over 95lbs is this world.
