From the moment we saw the trailer for new movie Whip It we were obsessed with the bold makeup. The film, which marks Drew Barrymore's directorial debut, stars Ellen Page as Bliss Cavender, an "indie-rock loving misfit" who ditches beauty pageants for roller derby. She tries out for a team named The Hurl Scouts and ends up skating alongside Smashley Simpson (Drew Barrymore) and Maggie Mayhem (Kristen Wiig). And in keeping with their ass-kicking hobby and bad-girl monikers, the ladies rock some seriously fierce makeup. Here, the film's lead makeup artist, Eryn Krueger Mekash, gives us the scoop on Drew's look.
"Drew's character Smashley Simpson is a groovy hippy party girl with a competitive edge. In real life, Drew loves Stila Convertible Color in Petunia for her cheeks and CoverGirl Lash Blast, so we used both products for her everyday looks. For the derby scenes, I switched to Colorescience Cry Me A River Waterproof Mascara. Her lipstick is MAC Russian Red, a classic matte red that stays on really well."
