Golden Globes 2012 Goddesses! Red Carpet Style to (Mostly) Die For!
The worst part of the Golden Globes: narrowing down the best dressed list!
-PJ Gach, BettyConfidential.com
As Meryl Streep said in her acceptance speech, "…Oh no, no, no." It was that hard picking a small group of actresses to represent the best dressed of the Golden Globes. If I could, 90 percent of the actresses who walked the red carpet would be on today's list! As it is, the list is bulging. On the flip side, it was difficult to separate the boring from the badly dressed. When you have a ton of fantabulously dressed actresses, the rest just fade away.
And now! The most glam and gorgeous! ...
THE BEST DRESSED
The awards for the Golden Globes Best Dressed are not given out in alphabetical order or by height. They're given out to women who looked spectacular.
Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron looked like a goddess in a Dior couture gown and Cartier jewelry pieces that are normally housed in a museum. One wonders how many bodyguards surrounded her during the event?
Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek looked ravishing, from her loose waves to the tips of her toes. The Gucci gown slithered over her curves. I can't get over the fact that the woman is barely 5 feet tall!
Octavia Spencer
Lovely in lavender, The Help's Octavia Spencer channeled Jackie O's '60s style with aplomb. She looked gorgeous in a Tadashi Shoji gown, silver Louboutins, Judith Leiber clutch and pale moonstone looking tear-drop earrings. Her chignon completes this classic look.
Sarah Hyland
Modern Family's Sarah Hyland looked totes adorb in a vintage Dolce and Gabbana lace gown. Whilst she was walking the red carpet, her zipper broke and Guiliana sent the E! fairies to fix it. Sarah told Guiliana, "Well I was just standing there waiting to come up here, and I just kinda felt like an explosion in my back….I'm sewn into my dress! It's funny because we had the zipper replaced." All of Sarah's glittering platinum and diamond jewelry was from Lorraine Schwartz and she carried Lauren Merkin's Eve clutch.
Paula Patton
During the pre-show E!'s Ross the Intern looked at Paula Patton's brilliant yellow mermaid dress by Monique Lhuillier and he (I'm paraphrasing here) said, "She's channeling Bird Bird in a good way." We thought she was absolutely yummolicious! We are also very envious of her Judith Leiber evening bag and kwait jewelry. We want to look like Paula when we grow up.
Emma Stone
On my TV, Emma Stone's Lanvin gown looked brown. In photos it appears to be a warm deep brick red. No matter the color, the fit is flattering and we love how Emma doesn't pay attention to trends and dresses to please herself.
Nicole Kidman
I know, I'm always surprised when Nicole Kidman lands on my best dressed list. Normally she's consigned to the worst list, but she pulled out the stops last night. The studded gray gown was molded to her body.
Tilda Swinton
Tilda Swinton's red carpet fashion is either head shaking or breath taking. Tilda Swinton's icy blue ensemble made her skin glow. For extra glow, she wore Fred Leighton platinum and diamond wing brooches that dates back to 1900. We're also digging the retro Teddy Boy coiffured do.
Reese Witherspoon
Looking like a pocket Venus, Reese Witherspoon channeled the Golden Age of Hollywood with a little help from Zac Posen and stunning platinum and diamond jewelry from Fred Leighton--some of the pieces were antiques!
Angelina Jolie
How can one woman look regal and fragile at the same time? Angelina Jolie's chignon, red lips and figure-hugging gown by Atelier Versace with matching bag and platinum and diamond jewels by Lorraine Schwartz were a true red carpet moment. However, her too tiny figure made me want to force a cupcake down her throat. Eat, please!
Nicole Richie
Hey Nicole Richie, once we drop the Xmas cookie weight, can we please with sugar on top borrow that sick, sick, sick Julian McDonald gown? Please with sugar on top.
Sofia Vergara
Who wasn't laughing when Sofia Vegara and the Modern Family crew were onstage to accept their award last night? Sofia totally hit the night's big trends: mermaid/fishtail gown and blue! She makes curves de rigeur. We love the peacock blue custom gown from Vera Wang and the elegant jewels from Harry Winston.
WORST DRESSED
Oh what can we say or do except shake our heads and wonder why these fashion disasters had to occur?
Claire Danes
A lot of people raved about Claire Danes J. Mendel gown. Um, the top looked like it was part of the workout outfit. Sorry, but no.
Jessica Chastain
The Help's Jessica Chastain's an actress with chops, serious chops. Her Givenchy gown with its high beaded neckline made her look like she was suffering from a neck sprain and the collar doubled as a brace. Props to her for wearing dazzling Harry Winston jewels.
Kelly Osbourne
Between the gray-lavender hair and a gown that's too old for her (Zac Posen), Kelly Osbourne looked older than Jane Fonda.
Lea Michele
Oh gawd! The uber black eye shadow, the peek-a-boo top: didn't we see it first and best onHalle Berry? Lea Michele looked like an ice skater in drag.
Amanda Peet
Oh Amanda Peet can I please have my bedskirt back? CANNOT believe she paired that thing with diamonds from Fred Leighton!
Piper Perabo
When Disney Princesses go bad.
Julianna Marguilies
A shapeless blob of grape jelly.
Busy Phillips
Tasseled toga wear? Busy Phillips must have come from a really ritzy fraternity/sorority mixer!
