What Guys Don't Tell You About Your Shoes
A recent conversation with my boyfriend while shoe shopping:
Me: Do you like these buckles?
BF: (affirmative?) grunt
Me: Do these fit OK?
BF: shrug
Me: What do you think about the heel?
BF: blank stare
All I wanted was his opinion on a pair of riding boots, ones like these. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. Lesson learned: Never take BF shoe shopping, or so I thought …
That is, until my fellow editor Jane told me about this study where guys offered their opinions on shoes, and the women who wear 'em. It turns out they actually do notice our shoes. Surprise, surprise. It was so fascinating that we decided to try our own little study (see it here).

However, while this might have changed my mind about guys and shoes, I still think shoe shopping is better with a girlfriend. At least they don't grunt.
What Guys Think: Clogs
Score: 1 (on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the worst)
The good:
"Looks cool, but must be difficult to walk in."
The bad:
"Hideous," "Not practical," "Looks painful," "You're going to break your neck."
The just plain weird:
"Reminds me of an African tribe."

"Those are impressively high."

"Are you kidding?" "Looks dangerous to walk in," "Ew, platforms," "Over the top."

"You ripped up the floorboards [to make these]!"
What Guys Think: Loafer flats
Score: 3
The good:
"Sensible," "Adventurous."
The bad:
"Tacky," "Secretly trying too hard," "Looks like something an older woman would wear."

"They definitely don't match the blue pants."
