At 85, the original blonde bombshell lives on-
No actress has singlehandedly defined the American image of beauty quite like Marilyn Monroe. From her early days as Norma Jean to her transformation into a cartoonish image of sexuality, Monroe's influence still pervades pop culture 50 years after her death. If she were alive today, she'd be celebrating her 85th birthday. Instead her property continues to be auctioned off in estate sales, and new pictures of the perpetual muse continue to surface. In her short life she had three ex-husbands including a baseball legend and a famed playwright. As the first cover girl, she is in part responsible for creating Playboy magazine's legend. She set records in Hollywood as an actress as well as a producer and created undying questions about her connection to president John F. Kennedy and his brother Robert. But her biggest legacy is the ink-print she left on our country's idea of beauty. Blonde, buxom and oozing affluence, Monroe, the creation, still remains an unattainable ideal, even for Norma Jean herself. less
