    Has your favorite beauty item ever been discontinued?

    GuerlainGuerlainSomething really sad happened to me yesterday. I went to Sephora to pick up my favorite lipstick, and discovered that my favorite shade has discontinued! I couldn't tell if I was more angry or sad. That was MY color! The BEST color! How dare they?! And what will I do without it?

    I was riding strong on Team Lipgloss for years, until one day about five or six years ago when a bag from Guerlain was delivered to my office at the now-defunct ELLEgirl magazine. I was unpacking products in the beauty closet and fell head-over-heels in love with Guerlain's Kiss Kiss lipstick. As if the golden ice cube-shaped tube wasn't stellar enough, the formula was smooth, light, and smelled softly of flowers. When applied, it wasn't the overly thick like other lipsticks I had tried. It went on like silk, and made my lips look juicy. It lasted hours. And took me over a year to go through one tube.

    I dabbled with several of the shades, but the Violet Shine was my favorite. As you can see, it's not so much violet as a gorgeous berry shade with a hint of shimmer. And now it's gone.

    Not even my beauty connections can help me in this situation--I contacted Guerlain who said the shade was part of a limited collection, and there are none left. So I directed my web browser over to eBay. I know about the horrors of wearing used makeup, but if the makeup is sealed it would be OK to use, right? But not even the international sellers had Violet Shine for sale. After searching the internet some more I finally found it available on Amazon through a seller called Beauty Encounter. I've just ordered one tube, and if it's satisfactory I'm going to buy an extra. By them time I use those up hopefully some new shade will be invented that I love as much.

    Has your favorite beauty product ever been discontinued? Were you able to find it, or did you find a suitable replacement?

      btw you can get Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific in one of those old fashioned paper catalogs that comes out with odd vintage stuff in it, maybe like old pueblo trader mag. or something like that. So they still make it and sell it somewhere. Also, Lemon Up shampoo is still available. Google it.

      The original amber colored GIO perfume by Armani. I had so many compliments every time I wore it. Now I just don't wear perfume. Nothing was better than that.

      Been reading through lots of these posts & I hope manufacturers are too. They should not discontinue best sellers which some of the products mentioned here must have been. It's like clothes shops, the big chains will only sell up to a certain number of a line saying otherwise many would see others in the same thing. I think they take this too far with too few repeats of really great items. The shops in the UK now are full of summer stuff (& have been for ages) & it's freezing, ridiculous, they change the seasons clothes long before they should. No wonder the retail trade is in such financial crisis, they need to evolve more readily instead of doing things the way they always have.

      Yes. Mary Kay had a Vanilla Sugar hand lotion and scrub. I loved it. A couple of months after I started using it, they quit selling it. I stocked up on all I could. So disappointing.

      Can't find Maxfactor makeup in a rollon tube. Looked all over - miss it since I used it to roll under my eyes for dark circles - acted as a cover-up!

      yes, Sea Breeze used to make a facial scrub with salycilic acid, it was the bomb and really worked to smooth the skin and cut down on oil!!!! I was sad when it left the shelves and searched every drug store, and bought up whatever I could find, that was years ago and nothing has appeared on the market since!!!

      When my pineapple flavored lipstick was discontinued in the 60s, I wrote to the company. They sent me a left over case of it for free! But when my favorite face cream, Lady Esther, was discontinued, no such luck. Sweetheart soap either...God I'm old. {{sigh}}

      Aveda Hang Straight - hair straightening lotion. Now they want you to buy two products to produce the same result. Also, the scent is different. I miss the product and that signature Aveda scent.
