Hillary Clinton's scrunchie: fugly or functional?

The horror! Hillary Clinton wears scrunchies! Photo courtesy of APThe horror! Hillary Clinton wears scrunchies! Photo courtesy of APToday Secretary of State and former first lady Hillary Clinton met with Peruvian Prime Minister Salomon Lerner in Washington D.C. to discuss relations between our countries. But some blogs, have chosen to blast Clinton for wearing an outdated hair accessory. Gasp! A scrunchie!

Scrunchies have had a recent resurgence thanks to American Apparel, but ever since Carrie Bradshaw mocked the hair elastic on "Sex and the City" most women have run from the stretchy fabric-covered elastics in fear.

Personally, we see no big deal here and think the Secretary of State has far more pressing issues than her choice of hair accessory. This is no velvet floral scrunchie from the '90s, this is tame. And to be honest, we've been known to rock a scrunchie around the house from time to time-hey, they don't leave a hair dent!

Do you still use scrunchies? In public? OK, we're moving on now.

If Sarah Palin stepped out like this it would be headlines in the news for days and bashing from the left. Michele Bachman would still look stunnig I bet.

WHat the heck is going on with Hillary's hair?? She looks ragged lately, when usually she has a stylish, flattering cut. She would look so much better with a new style.

She probably didn't have time to make it to the salon (Sarah Palin and Michele Bachman) to have her hair done before the meeting because she was WORKING! Her hair is clean, brushed, and out of the way. Looks practical and functional to me. LONG LIVE THE SCRUNCHIE! Bravo Ms. Clinton for putting your responsibilities ahead of pleasing the media.

So suddenly she is pressed for time? She used to be very well coiffed.

Or like Nancy Pelosi? Funny how you left out the woman who obviously spend a fortune on her hair and plastic surgery!

She only looks good compared to the dog in the white house. We can do much better than another socialist.

Since my hair is over 3 feet long, scrunchies are the easiest way for me to go anywhere. What I usually hear from people is, "Oh wow! Your hair is so long and pretty!", no mention of the scrunchies unless I'm wearing deliberately flashy ones.

It's Hillary that has to go...leave the scrunchie...leave it!

I love all the comments from people telling others to leave Hillary alone- I wonder if they perhaps were the ones bashing Palin?

scrunches have always been ugly. Once you hit 10, you need to move onto a simple band.

If the scuncie has to be that big, just go with a hat. Hats are always glamourous, scruncie isn't even a word.

No matter what one thinks of Hillary personally or politically, her choice in hairstyles lately has been unbecoming. Honeyc is right -- since she is obviously letting grow out longer, it must be at that awkward stage, easier to tie back than to worry about it flopping in your face. I thought her signature style from past years looked good. The longish flip, nah.

Hillary is about 20 years too old to be wearing her hair long--of course she doesn't have much to work with does she?
And the pants issue is obvious--her butt is too big for skirts!
What else do you want to know?

She is an attractive woman for her age and used to have a stylish contemporary cut and color that was youthful but not aging. One only wonders why she changed.

there's probably more professional choices, like a hair clip or even a plain ponytail holder, but her scruchie isn't bad. it's more for kids than adults imo. i haven't worn one since i was a kid.

I would be more worried about Hillary's weight than her hair.

I have very long hair and have to use a band of some type to keep it pulled back. Yes, I use a scrunchie, but a smaller one so as to not seem pretentious. What HC uses isn't any of my business. Nor is it yours.
