How Long Do You Take to Get Ready in the Morning?

So much for having a case of the Mondays. A recent British survey-the British love crazy surveys!-found that women spend a lot more time getting pretty on Monday mornings than they do any other day of the week, and tend to (comparatively) slum it a bit on Fridays.

As Reuters reported, "On average, women spend 76 minutes getting ready on Mondays -with almost a third of that spent on their hair-18 minutes on make-up, 16 minutes trying on different combinations of clothes and the rest taken up by showering and washing. This is reduced to 40 minutes on Tuesdays and continues to decline as the week goes on, falling to 19 minutes on Fridays."

Sounds like some understandable beauty burn-out, but the opposite case is true for us. On Monday mornings, we're out the door in a flash-because we're back through that door right at the end of the work day. On Fridays, however, we meet friends straight from the office, so we always make sure our hair and makeup are built to last and that we're wearing something that transitions well from professional to social settings (and that takes a few minutes to find in our closets). Also, here at Allure, Wednesday mornings mean meetings, and it's no coincidence that everyone looks well-coifed and dressed on the one day a week they're guaranteed to see nearly every staff member. Is your Monday routine longer than your Friday?

Most of my morning time is having my two cups of coffee. My clothes are hanging and ready to wear. Shower, light foundation, lipcolor.

My days of having to do the job are over and I'm greatfull I love being able to enjoy my quite mornings.I worked along time 35 yrs with gettings kids off to daycare and school. My mornings are now just for me and I must say I don't miss the morning rush. Life is good.

I get up an hour and 15 minutes before I have to be at work, it takes me 10 minutes to get to work, and about 5 to wake up fully and pee before I hit the shower, so about an hour. About 15 in the shower (I have really long hair so it takes a little bit longer to wash), 15 on makeup, 15 on hair, which has already air dried a bit while I did makeup, so just a quick blowdry, and either curl, or straighten the ends, about 10 deciding what to wear, and 5 getting my pup situated for the day. Not too long but long enough for me to look nice and professional. I work in a tuitoring center, and I would never go to work with wet hair, or without makeup. I think it's important to look nice. People are looking.

      Shower :15mins
      Moisturizer/Makeup: 15-20mins
      Hair: 0 (Air Dry)
      Getting Dressed: 5-10mins

So a total of 35-45 mins depending on how tired/out of it I am in the morning.
If I don't shower that morning 15-20 mins till I'm out the door.

I spend the most time getting ready on Fridays.

What's with everyone thinking that you need to wear makeup and do your hair? You actually have that low of self esteem that you can't just wake up and go? That's sad.

I guess I'm one of the few natural beauties (aka someone with normal self esteem where I don't feel the need to "fake" myself up in the morning). I wake up, get dressed in the FIRST thing I try on, brush my hair, brush my teeth, and I'm out the door. I shower at night so that cuts down time in the morning.

Anyone who has time to do their makeup and hair everyday are waaaaayyy to vain and self absorbed.

I shower at night, I don't agonize over clothes or outfits in the morning. I wet down my curly hair with a spray bottle and run my hands through it and let it air dry. Everyday makeup takes about 10 minutes. Whoosh! Done!

I don't agree with the article, meaning that we "Americans" take longer on Fridays because we're going to party. I don't think that has anything to do at all. I'm a mom, and I have a family waiting for me every single afternoon. On Mondays, I wash my hair to last the rest of the week (I have dry curly hair), so on MONDAYS I take a little longer to get ready than on Fridays. If I were single, then maybe I would wash my hair on Fridays to look good for the weekend. But my family doesn't really care what I look like while I clean the house on the weekend. That said, I think that's what happened with the survey in Britain: they surveyed people like me.

I don't wear any makeup and I usually just throw on a pair of jeans, work appropriate shirt and flats (sneakers when I'm lazy). I also just put on curling styling cream on my hair and let it air dry and it looks fine. All this plus showering and grooming takes me a little less than an hour.

When I lived in L.A. it took me precisely 22 mins to get ready for work in the morning. I've even mastered the 1 min. & 45 second shower (I shower at night so I don't have to spend long in the shower in the morning- just a wake me up & quick under arm shave!)Since moving, the weather has been more inconsistent, so it takes a few minutes more to really get out the door. It helps that I almost never bother with make-up except on the weekends. If absolutely necessary for a meeting, I apply when I get to work- I'm usually there early anyway! I've never understood putting on a whole load of make-up for work. I think most women could get by with moisturizer, foundation, mascara & gloss- 10 mins max for application. Spending half an hour on your face seems excessive (for work) to me...

an hour and 15 minutes. i take a longer shower b/c i shave my legs and condition my hair. after that it takes me a few minutes to brush teeth, apply spf and all that skin prepping. then 10 minutes for makeup 10 minutes for clothes, 20 minutes for hair. im not shy, it takes a little while for me to feel put together. its about the same everyday, unless im goint OUT out, then add 20 minutes ;) i get distracted while i get ready too. lol

gah. on monday not even 20 minutes, wake up brush my hair, theeth, wash my face, put my clothes on and am off.... same on fridays, that must be because i take my showers at night, its winter where i live and its really cold to take a shower so early and come out of the house....not even.

Half an hour, I do my shower when I get home because I get dirty. Most of the 1/2 hour is on the computer while the dog is out in the yard doing her business. I don't do makeup or hair other than brushing it. I try to make lunch before I go to bed.

Crank168, have you not read that more attractive people do better in the business world? Maybe every's excuse isn't vanity but putting their best professional image forward. Doing nothing to your appearance shows more of a lack of self esteem than getting primped. It tells the world I don't care enough about myself to care what I look like. I'm okay with average at best.

Oh my God. Including a 5-6 minute shower, I spend approximately 14 minutes getting ready. This includes brushing my teeth for 3 minutes and washing and putting in my contact lenses while I use a flouride rinse for at least 1 minute. I spend about 1 minute combing my wet hair, and 0 minutes applying makeup. It takes me about 2 minutes to put my clothes on.

If I were to wear makeup, I could add about 5 minutes for applying mascara and lipstick. Who has the time to spend an hour and a half getting ready each morning!!!???
    • Kris  •  1 year 11 months ago
During the week day, it typically takes me 25-30 minutes. About 5 minutes to actually get going, wash my face, brush my teeth, put in contacts, moisturize, a little concealer and foundation, blush, a little bronzer also doubled as eyeshadow and mascara.

I've started showering at night. All I need to do is flatten out some bumps, add a little hairspray and that's it. I usually know the night before what I'm going to wear the next day so that saves time.

If I shower in the morning, I have to add on about another 10 minutes.

The weekends it can be more or less, depending on what I'm doing. And of course, I'll take a little extra time if I really want to look very nice like for a night out with my baby or the girls. I look nice for work. I like looking put together, but I don't go over the top. I'm not a morning person so I'm usually dragging and running late. I do the bare minimum of where I still look good as fast as I can. hah
