Insane travel alert: The "hold-everything" airport vest for families with baggage

(rufusroo.com)(rufusroo.com)Want to pack more efficiently and humiliate your kids in the process? You could try using an old fanny pack. Been there, done that.

Or you could go one step further with The Big Pocket Travel Jacket. Rufus Roo, a British Company, is selling this parka designed not to fit anyone and hold up to 22 extra pounds of luggage.

Gizmodo's Kelly Hodgkins picked up on the fashion novelty this morning and kindly imagined why anyone would buy it: "The Travel jacket is a response to the hefty fees airlines charge for extra baggage. It bucks the system by letting you wear your travel items, not stuff them in a bag."

The jacket, equipped with four massive zipper pockets, retails for about $50 and comes in six different colors-none of which make it any more flattering or less suspicious. "That person in the nylon haz-mat vest stuffed with socks, a blow dryer and batteries is just packing smartly," thinks your friendly airport security guard.

Here are some things Rufus Roo suggests you fill your pockets with: a stuffed panda, scuba gear, little girls' shoes, and Richard Branson's autobiography.

If you can't fit all of that in your coat, use the nearest child. It fits them too, see? They love your baggage!(rufusroo.com)(rufusroo.com)

Katie- I don't know if we have different rules per se in our airports, but the feel is significantly different after 9/11.

Perhaps the airlines will finally figure it out and charge passengers by the pound (or kg). It's no thrill being wedged between two people who are "overflowing" their seats.

Yeah, like they're going to let you through security with THAT on. Make sure you're very white if you try it, otherwise you'll be looking at terrorism charges for sure.

Well you still have to take it off to go through security. I see what looks like an iPad in the photo. That has to come out of the jacket, before the jacket can go through the scanner. The stuff I see in the pictures, are things you can fit into a backpack. When my son and I fly, we have a single carry on each, and a backpack each. It worked out great. He had the DS and games in his backpack. I had my iPad and other smaller necessities in mine. He also fit his small pillow pet, and the security toy he can't travel without in there.

That's a good idea, they charge to ship packages by the pound, so why not everyone else lol

I'm not from US (maybe you have some different rules in the airports), but I would LOVE to have it here, in Sweden. I ALWAYS have to pack all of my pockets with things and sometimes wear couple of coats at once. I would love to have something with bigger pockets.

Nothing embarassing about that. (I don't see what children has to do with it).

I often visit may family in another country, I fly cheap airlines, and a baggage fee usually makes a ticket cost at least twice bigger!

And while visiting a family I take my clothes, winter shoes, make-up and a lot of presents. Yes, I takes space.

I would buy an extra coat like this. Otherwise it can be 20 Euro for tickets there and back and 40 more if you pay for a normal-sized bag. I can't afford it.
