Is Skipping Deodorant The New Big Trend?

    By Beth Shapouri, Glamour magazine

I've recently had three friends confess to me that they've stopped using deodorant for different reasons.

One stopped during her pregnancy because she didn't want any chemicals in her system while the baby was forming. One just tried it out of curiosity and found she didn't really stink. And another did it 'cause she figures she was meant to sweat and her body will just deal with it.

I've been noticing this happening in Hollywood, too--Julia Roberts told Oprah on her show that she doesn't wear antiperspirant. And if I remember correctly, Jennie Garth confessed to not using it on Chelsea Lately last year.

So the question is, is this all just a coincidence? Or have some of you stopped using deodorant and antiperspirant as well? Would you? Know anyone who has? Discuss below.

It seems like here lately a lot of people I come in contact with (such as beside me at the super market, in front of me at a check out, etc.) don't believe in deodorant either. Its pretty disgusting. Maybe the kind their using stopped working?? I don't know, but i wish they'd fix it. It seems like even when the person leaves the area still lingers on by that horrid stench!

My fiancé's sister (they are Indian and she's 17) smells really bad, and not only when she does physical activity. We tried to convince her that she needs to, at least, wear deodorant, but she never agreed to anything we said. When she's around, I even have to stop breathing from my nose. She keeps arguing that none of those products are good for your body.

Also, some celebs actually get Botox shot in their armpits to prevent from sweating, so I would definitely not listen to any of them....

Generally I wear an antiperspirant because my skin is very sensitive and will break out because of moisture. Every few days (or when I wear white, antiperspirant seems to yellow my clothes) I give it a rest and use a natural enzyme deodorant to let my pores unclog.

Ew. No. Gross. I've been in a classroom full of a bunch of kids who didn't know they smelled gross right before school was out in June and it was 90 degrees out. I never want to go back there (not that I have a choice).
      I repeat: EW.

all these people are talking about how antiperspirant is bad because it prevents the body from "removing waste materials through sweating." sweat is primarily a cooling mechanism, and it smells bad because of an interaction with the air and bacteria on the skin. it doesn't do any significant detoxifying.

My friends always told me I had to use deoderant but I really don't need it. I hardly ever sweat even if I work out. If anything I sweat more on my face and other parts of my body but it honestly just depends on the person

I wear antiperspirant because I sweat a lot :( It delays it, but doesn't stop the sweat from showing! I get scented ones even though I don't need it. I just like the smell, haha

I don't sweat much unless I am working out and my husband says I don't smell at all, however, I would not stop using deodorant/anti-perspirant...i would be too self conscious

I had a friend who thought she didn't stink it took months of suffering for someone to grow a pair and tell her she smelt really bad all the time she finally started wearing deodorant and everyone lived happily ever after thank goodness

I switched to Tom's of Maine about a year ago. I've heard the aluminum in regular anti-perspirants may not be good for you, and nothing I tried actually ever stopped me from sweating any way. I sweat all the time, summer, winter, whatever. The Tom's natural deodorant doesn't stop me from sweating, but it's anti-bacterial so you don't get smelly. I just figure I probably sweat for a reason so why try to stop it? I use natural deodorant, shower daily and always wear a clean shirt and so far no one is complaining.

Ew, definitely not a trend I will be getting into. It's possible (though I imagine not in the majority) that some people might not smell, even if they sweat. Power to them! Personally I sweat a lot, and by the end of the day I can smell myself on the rare occasion I forget to put it on! I do use combination deodorant/anti-perspirant, which apparently doesn't work that well because I sweat anyway. But at least it doesn't stink!

I went for a day not wearing antiperspirant or deodorant by accident once. Panicked for a while, then realized that I really didn't sweat much and really didn't have an odor. I didn't even know that since I'd been wearing deodorant since I was 11 years old. I hate the scents most deodorants have because they smell so artificial and like cheap perfumes to me. So it was a nice change of pace. Yet...I feel weird skipping it all together. So I started wearing Tom's of Maine- it's just deodorant, not antiperspirant. They use all natural ingredients and the only reason I go for it is I think the more natural ingredients give a more natural scent. I like the Lemongrass scent.

EWWWW I couldn't imagine anyone here in Florida without d.o.- for their b.o.- GROSS!

Not everyone sweats like a popsicle so why should everyone wear it?

And honestly, I prefer a slight musky odor to an overwhelming perfumey smell. People are so concerned with smelling like a magazine that they don't even remember how nice it can be to be natural.

I have been using Mitchum Roll-on Anti-Perspirant by Revlon for years and years and I do suffer from body order, especially when I wear polyester shirts, but this stuff is wonderful. You really don't have to use it everyday it's that good. Honestly, I use it about once a week, but then again I shower everyday also.
