Julia Roberts aka America's sweetheart is probably best known for her toothy smile and upbeat roles in "Eat Pray Love," "Runaway Bride," "Ocean's Twelve," and her rags to riches makeover in "Pretty Woman." She brought tears to our eyes in "Steel Magnolias" and managed to be an endearing badass in "Erin Brockovich," so it's hard to imagine Roberts as evil and manipulative. We were still rooting for her to steal the groom in "My Best Friend's Wedding"! But for some reason, the actress has been cast as the Evil Queen in a new adaptation of "Snow White." The yet-untitled film, has a release date of March 16, 2012.

According to Entertainment Weekly, this incarnation of the Evil Queen is quite different from her iconic Disney counterpart. Roberts wears extraordinary gowns by Oscar-winning costume designer Eiko Ishioka (of "Bram Stoker's Dracula" fame) intended to portray her opulence. The red peacock dress at the left is worn to a costume ball. As for her demeanor, the Evil Queen acts cheerful in public, but has a maniacal, sinister side which hopes to kill her step-daughter to maintain her golden throne. Director Tarsem Singh told EW, "I wanted a person who is just schizophrenic. She's a person who would just do all the evil she needs to do to stay in power."

Roberts may be an Oscar winner, but can she play a convincing villain? Co-star Lily Collins, who plays the title role of Snow White, is pretty confident. "She gets in character and stays there," Collins told EW. "She's 'Julia' and graceful and an amazing woman, but on-screen, when she turns…the way she's playing the queen, people feel really bad for Snow White."

Hmm. We hope Roberts' acting skills are on point, because while the queen on the right looks lazy, snobby, and self-indulgent, we wouldn't fear accepting an apple from her.
